No surprise here, the Perry guard has been one of the state’s most dynamic offensive forces for some time now. He’s explosive, athletic, and handles it well. It looks as though he’ll take a JuCo route next season.
2 Cam Chrisman, 24.9 PPG
Already committed to NAIA MidAmerica Nazarene, the Fort Madison point guard had played second-fiddle to Miles Wentzein the last two seasons – clearly it’s his team now.
3 Trenton Hilbrands, 24.7 PPG
The highest scoring junior in 3A, Hilbrands is quietly becoming one of 2017’s superstars. He’s shooting 57 percent from the floor, 41 percent from downtown, and leads LeMars in assists, steals, and rebounds.
4 Deandre Burnside, 24.4 PPG
For three years now the Bishop Heelan point guard has been slicing and dicing opponents. The 6-foot senior has saved his best for this season, and he has the Crusaders off to a 6-2 start.
5 Daric Laing, 22.5 PPG
Laing is no stranger to the spotlight, and he and fellow senior TJ Hockenson have high hopes for their Chariton club. The 6-foot-2 shooting guard has connected on 21 3s so far this season, good for second best in 3A.
6 Connor Gholson, 22.3 PPG
One of three non-seniors to make this list, the 6-foot-4 Newton wing is lighting up opponents this season. He’s the man now for the Cardinals after being more of a role player the last two seasons. Gholson could get a lot of looks next summer on the grassroots circuit.
7 Trey Tucker, 22.0 PPG
We’ve loved Tucker’s game since we first saw him play a year-and-a-half ago. The Greene County junior has always been an offensive force – he averaged 19.7 points per game his freshman season, and 22.7 last season.
T7 Cole Gidel, 22.0 PPG
The Nevada Cub has his sights set on high level basketball next season. And like many others on this list, he leads his team in not only points, but steals, assists, and rebounds too.
9 Ryan Hawkins, 21.7 PPG
Hawkins is having maybe the best season of any player in the state – to the tune of; 21.7 points, 14.7 rebounds, 5.0 steals, 2.9 assists, and 2.3 blocks per game. The 6-foot-6 Wayne State commit does it all for the Trojans.
10 Jake Kluender 21.5 PPG
One of the stars of the summer, Kluender has carried his momentum into the regular season. The 6-foot-6 forward has his Spencer Tigers off to a 5-1 start. And he’s shooting 63 percent floor the floor, while nabbing 12.5 rebounds per game.
