When Tanner Youngberg stops being awesome, we’ll stop writing about him. But as it is, the 6-foot-4 guard has received as much ink as anyone in the state this winter. His playing style makes him a lightning rod for triple-doubles, and that’s just what he did last Tuesday in a win over South Central Calhoun; 30 points (12-14 FGs), 10 rebounds, and 11 assists.
2017 Trent Hilbrands, LeMars (6’1 PG)
Like Youngberg, Hilbrands is commanding a lot of ink this season. The Bulldog guard is among the state’s leaders in scoring, and has been rebounding extraordinarily well from the guard spot. He grabbed 15 rebounds last Tuesday night in an impressive overtime win over Spencer. And the South Dakota Attack product added 17 points, 8 assists, and 2 steals for good measure.
2019 Jake Hilmer, North Linn (6′ PG)
It’s the most impressive game of the season, and it was accomplished by a freshman. The Barnstormers product has been astonishingly good this season, and his quadruple-double last Friday night was the first we’ve seen since our site’s inception two years ago. The top-5 2019 scored 13 points, dished out 16 assists, swiped 10 steals, and snared 10 boards in his team’s win.
2016 Gatdoar Kueth, Roosevelt (6’5 SF)
Another unprecedented occurrence since our site’s launch in 2014, a five overtime game. It was Kueth’s Roughriders who came out victorious in the extra frames against Cedar Rapids Washington, and the 6-foot-4 forward scored a season-high 25 points, and grabbed 14 rebounds and swatted 8 shots in the win for red-hot Roosevelt last Saturday.
2016 Cordell Pemsl, Dubuque Wahlert (6’8 PF)
The Hawkeye commit hasn’t been written about as much one would think, probably because he plays on a loaded team, in a very tough conference – so gaudy numbers don’t occur too often for the 6-foot-8 power forward. But he erupted in a narrow loss last Friday night against Linn-Mar, going for 34 points, while connecting on 14 of his 17 field goal attempts.
