It’s amazing what the Waterloo Christian has been able to do this season, and Monday night in a win over West Central-Maynard he erupted for 45 points (16-27 FGs), 16 rebounds, 8 assists, 5 steals, and 2 blocks. Doering is having an all-state kind of season.
Landon Rash, Algona (5’11, 2016)
We saw this coming a while back, and Rash was outstanding during the Norwalk Team Camp last summer, earning tournament MVP honors from us. He came to a boil Friday night in a win over Humboldt to the tune of 38 points and 9 rebounds. He was most effective from beyond the arc, where he connected on 7 of his 8 3-point attempts.
Connor Sonius, West Hancock (5’11 2016)
It’s very possible that we’ve written about Connor Sonius more than any other player since our sites inception almost two years ago. The guy is a numbers machine. He put up yet another triple-double last Monday in a win over Bishop Garrigan, going for 23 points, 10 rebounds, and 10 assists.
Christian Kyles, Siouxland Christian (2017)
A relative unknown to us before his astounding performance last Tuesday. The junior poured in 38 points, and swiped 11 steals in a blowout win over Heartland Christian. He also added 7 assists, 5 rebounds, and 3 blocks for good measure. Kyles will emerge in the next installment of 2017 rankings.
Mitchell Burger, Xavier (5’11, 2016)
Burger had a big summer with Iowa Pump ‘N Run and that’s paying dividends this season with Xavier. He etched his name into the Saints record books during Friday night’s win over Waterloo West when he scored a single-game record 34 points, breaking Adam McDermott’s previous record of 32 points set last season. Burger also popped in seven 3s, tying the school record.
