There have been several players at the wing positions who have helped their stock with strong senior campaigns. Here is our break down the shooting guard and small forward positions.
Let’s begin with the shooting guards. It is headlined by a quartet of D1 commits that all rank inside the top 13 prospects overall in Zack Norvell (Gonzaga), Justin Pierce (William & Mary), Nate Kennell (Bradley), and James Jones (Buffalo). All four should make an impact at their respective schools. There are several other potential D1 prospects on the board. Proviso East’s Antonio Williams is a 6’0” scoring guard that might have to go the JUCO route before playing at the D1 level. Kenwood’s Zion Morgan, Simeon’s Josh Thomas, Riverside Brookfield’s Skyler Nash, De La Salle’s George Wilborn, Morgan Park’s Jamal Burton, and Thornwood’s Drew Evans deserve consideration at the low-major D1 level as well as by D2 schools. Three nice pickups by division two programs in Donovan Oliver (Lewis), Mike Pollack (Northern Michigan), and Evan Hines (Minnesota State Morehead).
Variety of small college options available at the shooting guard position. There are shooters like Fenwick’s Mike Ballard, Knoxville’s Tyler Houston, Crete Monee’s Jeremiah Matthews, and St. Charles North’s Mikey Schroeder. Scorers include Lake Forest Academy’s Chris Harris, Stevenson’s Rodney Herenton, Bloom’s Jamal Parks, Marist’s Chamar Hawkins, and Breese Central’s Logan Kohrmann.
The small forward position has four D1 commits in Isaiah Roby (Nebraska), Jacob Cushing (Cal Poly), Brendon Gooch (SIU), and Zach Hollywood (Example Sports). Those are four of the top five ranked players at the position. The #2 small forward Kenwood’s Nick Robinson recently decommitted from Indiana State and becomes the top overall wing prospect available. Three prospects that are on the low-major/D2 radar include Plainfield North’s Kevin Krieger, St. Ignatius’ Daniel Ogele, Simeon’s Ben Coupet, and Ottawa’s Isaac Gassman.
Small college prospects that will be quality D3/NAIA prospects include Leo’s Darias Oliver, St. Rita’s Chris Williams, Pekin’s Austin Juergens, Athens Matt Wendling, Downers Grove North’s Devin Blake, and many more!
