Let’s take a look at five key games to watch this week in the Cincinnati and Dayton areas:
La Salle (12-2) at Oak Hills (10-4), Tuesday: This is likely the top game in Cincinnati Tuesday night. The Lancers are hitting their stride – having won four consecutive games. Watch for junior guard CJ Fleming (Bellarmine commit), who averages 20 points and 3.2 rebounds. Oak Hills has two players in the top five in scoring of the Greater Miami Conference including 2017 guard Ryan Batte (15.6 ppg., 6.3 rpg.) and 2017 guard Luke Rudy (14.3 ppg., 5.5 rpg.).
Greenville (7-4) at Trotwood-Madison (12-1), Tuesday: An outstanding matchup in the Greater Western Ohio Conference North division. This could go a long way in determining the North champion. Trotwood has won five consecutive games. Myles Belyeu, a 2018 forward, averages 13.5 points and 9.3 rebounds. Greenville 2016 forward Clay Guillozet averages 26.3 points and 7.5 rebounds.
Northridge (13-1) at Carlisle (9-4), Tuesday: A premier matchup in the Southwestern Buckeye League Buckeye division. Northridge has won five consecutive games and averages a conference-best 63.5 points while allowing a conference-best 41.6 points. Watch for Northridge 2016 forward Drew Ogletree, who averages 13.1 points and 9.9 rebounds
Woodward (10-2) at Taft (9-2), Friday: Woodward averages 78 points and the Bulldogs want to use that offense Friday night in this Cincinnati Public Schools rivalry. Woodward 2017 guard Will Coker averages 22.5 points, 3.4 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 2.3 steals. Taft has 2017 forward Jahlil Woods along with 2016 forward Antwan Johnson (13.1 rpg.) and 2017 forward Malek Green (15.0 ppg., 11.4 rpg.).
Moeller (13-1) at La Salle (12-2), Friday: This is arguably the top game of the week in Southwest Ohio. These two Greater Catholic League South division teams will meet against Feb. 12 at Moeller but this game will be physical and an absolute joy to watch if you are a Cincinnati-area hoops fan. Moeller has won six consecutive games including a big win over Elder last week. Watch for senior guard Trey McBride (Mount Vernon Nazarene) and La Salle senior Jeremy Larkin (Northwestern football commit).
Huber Heights Wayne (12-0) at Centerville (7-4), Friday: The road to Columbus may run through Wayne though there are plenty of Cincinnati candidates. The Warriors have won 12 consecutive games. Wayne senior guard Rodrick Caldwell averages 14 points, 6.4 assists and 3.1 rebounds. Junior L’Christian Smith averages 13.2 points, 6.8 rebounds and 2.2 blocks. Centerville is led by 2017 guard Keegan Saben, who averages 18.7 points and five rebounds.
Indian Hill (11-1) at Wyoming (10-4), Friday: This classic Cincinnati Hills League matchup is a rematch of the Dec. 4 game in which the Braves won 61-36 against visiting Wyoming. Watch for Indian Hill 2018 guard Colin Shaw, who averages 17.8 points and 4.3 rebounds. Wyoming 2017 guard Lonnie Grayson averages 17 points, 5.9 rebounds and three steals.
Anderson (11-4) at Walnut Hills (9-3), Friday: An intriguing Eastern Cincinnati Conference showdown as these two teams meet for the second time this season. Walnut Hills won the first game 53-51 Dec. 11. Watch for Anderson senior guard DeAnthony McCallum, who averages 20 points 4.2 rebounds and 1.7 assists. Walnut Hills has a balanced attack including senior guards Adam Goines and DJ Benson and sophomore forward Omari Peek.
Wilmington (13-0) at Moeller (13-1), Saturday: Moeller faces La Salle Friday night and then Wilmington on Saturday. Wilmington is led by Mr. Basketball candidate Jarron Cumberland (Cincinnati signee). This should be fun.
Kings (8-5) at Little Miami (10-4), Saturday: This backyard rivalry continues on the hardwood. Little Miami 2017 forward Alex Johnson averages 12.6 points and 6.4 rebounds. Kings is led by 2017 guard Clay Spivey, who averages 13.9 points and 4.2 rebounds along with 2017 guard Tyler Mitchell, who averages 128 points, 4.1 assists and 2.5 rebounds.
