Why…..
Wayzata. They have good wins over Armstrong and Edina amongst a few others and the loses are to teams ranked above them. Look at the schedule, not the record. And the record is fine for 10th at 6-3.
Tartan. Despite the loss to Richfield they beat one of the elite teams in Iowa (Linn-Mar) plus beat solid teams from Mahtomedi and Rogers.
Why Not…
Farmington. While it’s been a fantastic year at 7-2, they have not beaten a team with a winning record yet. They were hammered by Lakeville North although that Apple Valley score (lost by 17) was closer than expected.
Cretin-Derham Hall. Nice start at 6-1 but the wins are all against teams with deep losing records save Woodbury. They lost to Minnetonka in a close game and Tonka just dropped out of the polls.
Mounds View. They have done a great job winning the games on their schedule, but they have beaten nobody with a winning record. With Fridley, the Bethel event, CDH, and Woodbury coming up they have a chance to push to another level.
Elk River. Maple Grove crushed them but they did beat Rogers. That said, need some more quality wins before they are top ten.
Minnetonka. Lost to EP and if you are a top ten team right now you need to beat EP. They did beat Edina, Chaska, CDH, and Orono with losses to Apple Valley and Madison East so they are the next candidate to get right back in. Also, they are the most talented team in the Bethel event so they should build some Ws as long as they can look past what’s going on at the school.
Better record than I thought:
- New Prague (6-4)
- Eagan (3-5)
- Cretin-Derham Hall (6-1)
- Elk River (7-1)
- Spring Lake Park (4-4)
Worse record than I thought:
- Lakeville South (3-6)
- Chanhassen (3-6)
- Rosemount (1-7)
- East Ridge (2-6)
- Centennial (1-6)
