5th Place Game: Jehovah-Jireh vs Runnels
Jehovah-Jireh is led by Sophomore PG Donald Johnson and he was key in their play last night as well with Freshman PG Jaron Davis out to injury. Johnson had 14 points and numerous assists got JJCH. Junior forward Jakobey Hitchens added 20 points and was a perfect 6/6 at the free throw line and Sophomore wing Trenton Payne led all scorers with 21 points.
For Runnels, it was guard Hampton Hudson who does it all for them. Rebounding and breaking pressure means he couldn’t score like he’s capable of but still performed well. Despite a balanced attack, forward Conner Raines led them with 13 points. JJCH won 65 to 55 in thanks to a strong 2nd and 3rd quarter performance.
3rd Place Game: St. Michael’s vs Christian Life
St. Michael’s senior PG Michael Alfred led all scorers with 20 points and did all he could to keep them in the game as nobody else was in double figures. Sophomore athletic guard Brandon Bourgeois added 7 points late before fouling out. That allowed Christian Life to win relatively easy despite a slow start 66 to 49.
CLA was led by senior guards Ludovic Kader (18 points, multiple highlight dunks) and Sam Williams (18 points, 3 made 3’s in 2nd quarter). 2017 wing Marquis Webb added nine points on 3 made 3’s as well. The 28 points in the 2nd quarter for CLA was enough to open the game up and give them the win.
Championship Game: Catholic (BR) vs Parkview Baptist
Catholic High and senior G Tolliver Freeman are a very tough match-up for anyone with how they play. Limiting mistakes and making life tough for opposing defenses is the model and it helps with Freeman scores 27 points on the night. Senior PG Ethan Treigle added 14 points as well to give Catholic the 1-2 punch it needed. The 41 points combined were just one shy of Parkview as Catholic won 60-42.
Parkview was led by senior Ryland Vial (13 points) who is playing with a torn ACL. He played over 20 minutes and hit 4 three’s to keep Parkview in it before the big 3rd let Catholic pull away. Catholic was able to load up on defense to slow junior PG Tyree Lomax (6 points) and the young guards like freshman Zac Kingham (6 points, all in 2nd) found sledding tough in the 2nd half versus a veteran Catholic squad.
