He’s arguably the most valuable piece to one of 4A’s deepest and most experienced teams – that coupled with his offseason playing with Kingdom Hoops has college programs flocking.
NAIA programs Morningside, Briar Cliff, and Grand View have all offered, and a bevy of additional Division III and Division II programs are inquiring.
“I’ve been getting looked at from mainly all the Division III schools all around,” said Cummins. “Buena Vista, Central, and Simpson have been the main Division III schools. And I’ve heard from Wayne State, Sioux Falls, and Upper Iowa for D2.”
Cummins added: “My ultimate goal is probably D2, but I like all the (NAIA) schools that have offered me. I’m just hoping to hear more from the D2 schools as the season goes on.”
The 6-foot-5 small forward is a versatile prospect who can play inside or out – he described his playing style to PHI.
“I’d say shooting is a strength of mine and I’ve gotten better at getting to the basket, those are my strong suits. And I feel I’m pretty good at off-the-ball defense,” said Cummins.
“I still need to get better at getting to the basket and finishing, and I could still improve a bit with on-the-ball defense.”
One of many seniors on one of 4A’s best teams, Cummins will be looked to for leadership this season.
“Last year a lot of our guys didn’t have a lot of experience, but we have a lot of experience back this year,” said Cummins. “They’ll look at me to be a little bit of a leader out there, and just make sure that people are doing what they’re supposed to be doing.”
