The experienced guard is averaging 14.4 points on 62 percent shooting, and 5.1 rebounds per game for the Blue Devils.
He spent his summer playing with Eastern Iowa Flight, and has picked up some NAIA interest from one Kansas program.
“University of St. Mary from Kansas is recruiting me, it’s just letters right now,” said Rummels, who said he would be interested in playing at the NAIA level.
“I’m going to start texting University of St. Mary and see if they want to come up and watch a couple of games. Other than that, I’m just waiting on somebody to recruit me.”
A 6-foot guard, Rummels is surprisingly one of the tallest guys on his Davenport Central team, and he plays in the post as much as he plays on the perimeter.
He’s working now to develop his guard skills more as his senior season wears on.
“I think I’ve developed my ball-handling and jump shot a lot. And I’ve adjusted to the speed of the game, and playing AAU last summer really helped with that,” said Rummels, who mentioned additional areas of his game he’d like to improve.
“My quickness on my feet, and taking it to the hoop stronger, also my pull-up jumper off the dribble.”
As a three year starter with the Blue Devils, Rummels is using his senior season to become a better team player, and play strong defense to lead his team.
“My role right now is to get boards and knocking down my jump shots, and defense,” said Rummels. “I think this year everybody is just ready to play defense, defense is our key right now.”
“This season I just want to continue to get better as a player and a team player, and get some more looks for college.”
