The rangy, and refined guard has spent his offseasons playing with Kingdom Hoops Elite, that coupled with his exposure on Ankeny’s south side has allowed him to pick up two NAIA offers, and other interest.
Grand View and Dordt have extended offers to the 6-foot senior, and he’s been in close contact with area D3s.
“I’ve been talking to Simpson, Central, and Luther mostly for D3s,” said Riordan. “I’ve gotten a little bit from University of Mary, but not much since (we last talked).”
Riordan has been a busy guy; visiting Dordt, Grand View, Luther, and Central in the last few months. He says his focus is on winning with his 5th-ranked Hawks right now though.
“I’ve kind of started playing (my recruitment) through,” he said. “I just want to focus on my senior season first, and then I’ll wait until spring to make my decision.”
He spent his past two seasons with Ankeny starting, leading the team in scoring each season. This season he has given way to top-10 2017 Drew Maschoff in regards to being leading scorer. But has embraced the role of leader.
“I think overall I just need to be a leader, keep the guys together and keep us playing hard all the time,” said Riordan. “I need to be a guy to take the shot when needed, but then also set up teammates and just make plays that need to get done so we can have a better chance of winning.”
He added: “I’m just kind of focused on state, I haven’t been to Wells Fargo Arena yet, so I’m just focused on getting there.”
