And though he may have been underrated in the past, playing in the shadows of current Truman State playmaker Jake Velky, he’s now getting his chance to shine with the Go-Hawks, and is leading the team this season averaging 13.7 points per game.
Though the 6-foot 2016 is still offer-less, his recruitment is starting to gain some steam, and he’s hearing from nearly all levels of programs.
“I’m still hearing from a lot of the D3s from around the state, and I’m starting to pick up interest from a lot of the NAIAs as well. I’ve had some JuCos talk to me, and one D2 – a little interest from Upper Iowa. But schools like that (D2) I’m still trying to get my name out too,” said Moore, who mentioned which programshave been in most frequent contact with him.
“For Division III it would definitely be Dubuque. And then (for NAIA) I’ve talked to Morningside a lot, and Grand View. And for JuCo Iowa Lakes.”
Moore says his goal is to continue to remain patient with the recruiting process, and to keep playing his game.
“My recruitment is something I think about pretty often, and I know I’ll have to play well this season and things will come,” he said. “I’m focused on this season mostly, and I know that stuff will come, and I won’t make a decision until after this season. I’m going to remain patient and keep doing well this year and stuff will come.”
“I want to get more schools looking at me obviously, and bigger schools, and I just want to keep going out there and playing well in games.”
A plus ball-handler, who in the past has been a safe and steady bet at point guard, Moore says this year he’d like to become more of a risk-taker, while keeping his turnovers limited.
“I’d like to get more aggressive, even with just with my passing, like taking more risks with a pass. I don’t want to turn it over, but I want to make more passes when I’m driving and dish to my big men more. And I want to continue to work on my shot, especially off the dribble,” said Moore.
“This summer I basically worked a lot on shooting off the dribble, my last couple of seasons that hasn’t been as good as I’d have liked. And I also haven’t shot free throws as good as I could and this year I’ve been working on that as well.”
He mentioned his role with the Go-Hawks – one of 3A’s best teams – is to push the tempo, and get everyone involved.
“My role right now is to score — I know that, the team knows that,” said Moore. “And to try and get everyone involved, and just try to get the pace moving at the pace we like to move at, not the pace the other team wants to move at. We like to push, so that’s another thing I have to do.”
