Currently unranked, the Kingdom Hoops sharpshooter will certainly find himself in the next installment of rankings, and should see his recruitment start up soon too.
“No recruitment or anything like that yet,” said the sophomore. “I’m still young right now, but as I move on I’ll look for more attention, but I’m OK with it right now just being a sophomore. I don’t really think about it too much.”
Vander Zwaag spent his 15U offseason playing with Kingdom Hoops Elite, gaining valuable experience that has propelled him into a significant role with the Dragons varsity.
The 6-foot-3 guard characterized his playing style to PHI.
“I like to shoot 3s and just work hard, play some defense, and attack the boards,” said Vander Zwaag. “I like to move the ball around, stuff like that. I think I really need to work on driving more, and make people respect me more like that.”
He added: “I’d like to continue developing my ball-handling skills, and maybe get some different sets for me at point guard, but shooting guard is my main position.”
The sophomore standout is averaging 5.8 points per game and connecting on 43 percent of his 3-point tries this season – not bad for a guy who was playing freshman ball a year ago.
“It’s a great opportunity to be playing varsity as a sophomore, it’s been great and I’m just trying to make the best of it right now,” said Vander Zwaag. “My role is to come in and play hard, and just come in and give it my best.”
