Though he starts for a very good Mustangs team, he has not played grassroots ball since 8th-grade, possibly a variable in his lack of recruitment.
“I haven’t seen much recruitment at all, maybe a little bit of mail,” said Jacobsen. “I don’t think I’ll go anywhere too big for basketball, so I’m more just focused on grades. If I were to get a chance to play at the next level I’d definitely give it some consideration.”
He four positions for Dallas Center-Grimes, the two through the five, and says his combination of strength and quickness that aids him most.
“I think my strengths revolve around getting open and cutting, getting backdoors, kind of like getting the sloppy points and doing the dirty work. I think I’m pretty versatile on defense, when I need to I can go out and guard the guard, or I can go down low and guard guys in the post. I think I have a little bit of strength and quickness that helps me out,” said Jacobsen.
“I’ve been working a lot on my shot between this season and last season, and I’ve been getting in the gym and starting lifting to get a little bit stronger, and that’s really helped my game.”
Jacobsen and the Mustangs are off to a 202 start after starting 0-2, and he’s off to a nice start averaging 11.2 points and 4.8 rebounds.
“I think I’m relied upon most heavily on the defensive side of the ball,” said Jacobsen. “And I’m used as a utility player, a guy who can get rebounds and get some baskets when we need it, but not try and do too much.”
