Christian, a receiver on the Knights’ state-title winning team is receiving Division I football interest and is now undecided on which sport he’ll pursue in college.
It’s a big shift for one of the top unsigned basketball seniors in Northeast Ohio and a player who might wind up the Knights’ all-time leading scorer.
Christian made his football debut this season after visiting practice. His season ended with a state title, and that’s pushed him on the basketball court.
“I want to grind everyday to get that second ring,” Christian said. “All we do is talk about what we need to do is get to states.”
Getting back in basketball shape so quickly was tough, but he has the Knights out to a fast start this season, including a win against rival Walsh Jesuit.
Despite spending much of the offseason on the football field, Christian returns as a better hooper.
“My leadership is different,” Christian said. “I’m more active when I have the ball in my hands, and I improved my jumper a lot.”
Christian leads a guard-heavy team that likes to run and shoot 3-pointers. With a strong senior year, he could be atop the school’s career scoring list.
“It would mean a lot to me,” Christian said. “I go out every game and play my heart out. I play to the best of my ability and try to prove everybody wrong.”
In a few weeks, Christian plans to sit down and assess his basketball and football college options to determine which route he is more serious about. Until then, he is making sure to enjoy his time left at Archbishop Hoban.
“I’m going to miss the community and all of the students coming out to the student section and being there for me,” Christian said. “Everyone helps you out. My goal is just to be there for my team. I want to remember every moment I had in high school.”
