I have a feeling we will be writing about Doering a ton this season. And his near quintuple-double last Friday night was stupefying; 25 points, 11 assists, 9 rebounds, 9 steals, and 7 blocks.
2016 Trent Hilbrands, LeMars
During a double overtime loss to Spencer Hilbrands pieced together a monster 42 point effort, it’s the highest scoring total yet this season in the state. He was efficient too, connecting on 15 of 22 field goal attempts (4-7 from 3). The 6-foot-1 point guard also nabbed 11 boards.
2016 Connor Sonius, West Hancock
Sonius is no stranger to these honors, we wrote about him routinely last season when he was a junior, and this season he’s been even better. Tuesday night the 6-foot point guard went for a career high 38 points, while grabbing 8 boards, and dishing out 5 assists.
2016 Jake Kluender, Spencer
Jake Kluender one-upped Hilbrands on Friday night when he not only scored 41 points, but snared 21 rebounds in the double overtime thriller. The 40-20 feat is rare at any level of hoops, it may not happen again this season. Kluender was 15-22 from the floor in the game, and knocked in both of his 3-point attempts.
2016 Nolan Chapman, Treynor
Chapman is well-versed at coming up big in March, he’s been memorable for two years straight at Wells Fargo Arena. He had a shooting performance that may not be topped this season when he connected on 12 3-pointers Friday night, en route to a career high 40 points.
