- Moeller senior guard Trey McBride (Mount Vernon Nazarene commit) had a game-high 12 points along with six rebounds and two steals as the Crusaders upset Mater Dei (Calif.) 43-40 in the fifth place game of the Beach Ball Classic in Myrtle Beach, S.C. Mater Dei (13-2) is ranked No. 10 nationally by the MaxPreps Xcellent 25 (editorial rankings) and No. 14 nationally by the MaxPrep Freeman Computer Rankings. Junior forward Riley Voss added 11 points and six rebounds for the Crusaders (9-1), who return to the Cincinnati area this weekend in time for the next game at Covington (Ky.) Catholic at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 5.
- Purcell Marian defeated Finneytown 64-36. The Cavaliers are 8-1 entering the New Year. Senior guard Rashaad Ali-Shakir recently set the new GCL Co-Ed all-time 3-point career for the Cavaliers. “Nice way to end off the year,” Ali-Shakir tweeted.
- Kettering Alter defeated Cumberland County (Tenn.) 71-38 on Thursday. The Knights outscored Cumberland County 25-10 in the first quarter. Alter (6-4) has won straight games.
- Huber Heights Wayne defeated Tift County (Ga.) 72-47 in the final of the Arby’s Classic in Tennessee. The Warriors improved to 9-0 and will play host to Springfield Jan. 8 at 7:30 p.m.
- La Salle lost to Dillard 49-42 in the Kingdom of the Sun final in Florida. The Lancers (7-1) play at Hughes Jan. 5.
