Remember the good old days of Henry Sibley hoops? The old regime featured future D1 players like Mike Bruesewitz and Trevor Mbakwe, and the squad saw state tourney appearances in 2008 and 2009.
Those days are long gone, as last year’s Warrior team went 2-23. One of the upcoming bright spots is Isaiah Robinson, an athletic 6-2 guard who spent his spring and summer with Select Ellis. He averaged around 8 PPG as a Sibley junior, and he promises to be a nice sleeper prospect as he grows in the Metro East.
“We had a really young team last year and we struggled,” Robinson said, “but it was a good opportunity for me to step up. With all of our players returning, we are looking forward to a big year.”
A couple schools have been tracking Robinson already.
“I’ve heard from Northland, Upper Iowa, St. Scholastica, and I’ve got a few letters from Gustavus and Saint John’s,” he said. “But I’ve been on two visits to Augsburg — one being a open gym — and really like it there. Location isn’t that important but I prefer an urban campus. I like the small class sizes and opportunity that privates schools provide.
“I hope to make a decision by the end of this season to see if I can pick up anything else I hope to get some D2 looks this season and by how much I’ve been improving like I think I can. I've been working a lot on getting stronger in the weight room and also on my outside perimeter shot.”
