Brandon Johnson to Western Michigan
TF South 2016 power forward Brandon Johnson made his college decision on Tuesday night. Johnson informed PrepHoopsIllinois that he has committed to Western Michigan. We spoke with the top 10 prospect and he told us why they were his choice.
“It’s a great team, staff, players, and a great place. I’m extremely happy with my decision and I’m ready to prove myself on the next level.”
He will team up with his good friend and fellow Western Michigan commit Morgan Park point guard Jarrin Randall to give them a dynamic inside-outside duo. Johnson is excited to play with his former EYBL running mate at the next level.
“I’m extremely excited about playing with my good friend Jarrin. It played a little role in it, but I just felt this was the best situation for me.”
The senior power forward knows exactly who he is as a player and does his job game in and game out. He is the Tristan Thompson of the state’s 2016 class. The 6’7” four man is a bouncy post that excels at hitting the offensive glass for second chance opportunities. At least half if not more of his points come in this fashion. Flashes skill potential, runs the floor well, and can block shots.
Johnson also took official visits to SIU-Edwardsville and UIC. He ran with both the Mac Irvin Fire and All-In/Young & Reckless on the grassroots circuit this past summer. Johnson ranks as the #6 overall prospect and #2 power forward in the class of 2016.
