About Xavier

How would you briefly describe your gameplay style?

I'm an adaptive player. You need a 3, I'm your guy. Steals/rebounds. that's me. Role player, starter, bench, I just want to win. Practice may start at 3 pm for the team, but I've been up with my mom since 5 am, getting in the extra work. My brother (Terrance James) set the bar high and I'm determined to beat him. We 3 boys plan on retiring our mom at an early age. That's why I work hard.

Can you provide a brief description of your mentality or personality?

I'm like a Chameleon. I blend into whatever system or needs you have. I keep a high GPA because I understand coaches don't want a dumb athlete. Can't get college minutes if I can't read the playbook. I'm the second part of my mom's trilogy and us boys are going to retire her and give her a reason to hang up her badge.

Are you involved in any clubs, organizations, or have you received any non-sport awards?

Undefeated in Taekwondo in Louisiana. 2022-23 Track State Champ 2023-24 Track State Champ

What skills or qualities have you developed, such as leadership, teamwork, or community service?

My mother raised me military style. She taught me that hard work today makes for a bigger reward later on. She also said that a team is like a family and we are only as strong as the weakest link and we have to work together to help that link. I'm like my mom. Calm, cool under pressure, but can flip that switch when I need to.

Have you faced any significant challenges? If so, please describe.

I have to grow up knowing that there are people that don't like my mom because of what she does for a living (Deputy). People don't take the time to get to know her as a person; they just assume that she's bad like the rest. My mom's a good officer. She tells me to ignore comments, but it's hard because that's my mom. That's why me and my brothers go extra hard on the court and in the classroom.

What type of college are you looking for?

I used to want to be and 1 & done, but seeing my mom's excitement when she sees me and my brothers' report cards, I want a school that will push me, both on and off the court, like she does. I'm looking for that extended family that understands what I want and helps me get there. I want a coach that treats me like a son - reward me when I excel, but get on me when I fall short.

Well in today’s game the king of the court is going to be a shooter. He has to be able to knock down the long ball. The ability to stretch the floor is going to get every shooter minutes. Gray is a shooter. Every time he lets it go, there is a chance he can make the shot. He has a nice stroke. He is taller than last year and shooting the ball with confidence, and at this rate he is going to be a serious problem. Gibsland is one of the top teams in the state and I guarantee if you check the stat sheet, Gray has hit some from deep.
