Koonin had a big night offensively, scoring 33 points against Walkertown. He made defenses pay for giving him space, knocking down shots from the perimeter, and showed comfort scoring at all three levels. When attacking the basket, he used his strength and body control to finish plays inside. His shot-making was a major factor in Mount Tabor’s win over Walkertown.

Circling back to Mount Tabor is where we find 6’3″ combo guard Will Koonin Will Koonin 6'3" | CG Mount Tabor | 2026 State NC . I’ve heard colleagues describe his style of play as a Swiss Army Knife. I could not agree more.
At 6’3″, Koonin is a well-sized combo guard whose versatility defines hime as a basketball player. He’s a dominant scorer under the basket and around the perimeter, has the ability to step up as a lock down defender when his team needs him to and perhaps most importantly is an unselfish team player who does whatever it takes to win. I think it is fair to say that Koonin does the most damage when he’s looking to score and attack the basket. With that being said, that’s not always what this Mount Tabor team needs. Koonin’s ability to adjust his style of play and mesh well with a multitude of different lineups throughout four quarters shows his maturity and discipline as an emerging prospect on a loaded team. Will Koonin Will Koonin 6'3" | CG Mount Tabor | 2026 State NC and Hunt Murfee Hunt Murfee 5'6" | PG Mount Tabor | 2026 NC are the future of Mount Tabor’s backcourt. These are two prospects that will play a critical role in maintaining their success in the Triad during the regular season and when it’s time to compete with the best programs in N.C. during the playoffs. Stay patient, but keep an eye out for these two anytime they share the court together. It will be a nice glimpse as to what’s to come.

Things start to get a little more interesting now as we dive into some class of 2026 guys. The rising juniors have a big year ahead now that they have had two years in this Mount Tabor system. They’re now expected to contribute meaningful minutes and produce when they’re on the floor.

, Koonin is a dual-sport guy who is a tough competitor and elite playmaker. At 6’3″, Koonin is a good-size combo guard who is an excellent option to play with and behind guys like Peterkin and Blair. What I like most about Koonin is his ability to do damage without the ball. He moves well in the open court, sets good screens, grabs 50/50 balls that facilitate second chance buckets, and is one of the most competitive defenders in his class. With a Mount Tabor roster that will need more of a scoring presence from Koonin this season, I expect him to evolve into a consistent three point shooter before we hit the prime of the high school season in 2025. Expect big things from

Koonin has been posting near double double stat lines week in and out, showcasing a willingness to attack the glass and do the dirty work for his guys. He’ll get a few finishes here, make a few nice passes there, and pull down a few boards to get a triple nickel or more in many of his games. The kind of Swiss Army knife you need on your team that makes the right decisions, looks to making winning plays and be a coaches player. Dual sport athlete with baseball, but will be a stud in both sports for sure.

Koonin is a smart, heady playmaker that ran the show well when Peterkin was out of the game, and shared duties while they shared the floor. He consistently made the right play, attacking the paint and either getting fouled, scoring, or finding his teammates for good looks. Showed prowess as an offensive rebounder in this game as he continually stuck his nose in to try and get second opportunities.
