About Weston
Expert Analysis
Bobby Lopez | Prep Hoops Scout
Van Slyke was a winning piece all weekend, showing the kind of game every team loves to have on the floor. He played unselfish basketball, moved the ball, made smart reads and always seemed to be in the right spot. His quickness stood out, allowing him to beat defenders, create angles and stay a step ahead in transition. Around the rim he was a strong finisher who converted chances with confidence. What really popped was his three level scoring ability, knocking down shots, attacking the mid range and getting all the way to the basket. Productive, smart and impactful throughout

Weston has jumped on the scene this year and has not looked back. You can tell that he’s worked on his game in the offseason and is now starting to see exactly what that hard work does for him. Despite his team struggling, he’s found some success. He’s a 6’3 wing that the ball finds, and he aggressively attacks the basket. He has games where opposing teams have a difficult time slowing down and forcing him to the FT line. He attacks mismatches, finishes right over defenders, and is always looking to score. He’s putting up an impressive 11.7 points and 7.8 rebounds a game. He’s an inside finisher who we want to see more of, but we like what we’ve seen this season. He’s certainly a riser.

VanSlyke significantly elevated his prospect profile over the summer, showing why Sand Creek will be one to watch this season. He’s a natural attacker, always looking to make a play and his quick first step allows him to get downhill in a hurry and put constant pressure on defenses. Offensively he’s a deadly spot up shooter who can punish opponents from deep, stretching the floor and creating opportunities for teammates. Defensively his energy never dips and he’s active, engaged and keeps his hands in every play. With his combination of quickness, shooting and intensity, VanSlyke will be a high impact game changing player

VanSlyke was seriously impressive out there—just a natural scorer who knew how to get buckets in all kinds of ways. He worked hard every possession to get to his spots, and once he did, it was pretty much a wrap. His drives to the lane were super effective and he’d get in there strong and finish with ease, making tough layups look routine. What made him even more dangerous was that he wasn’t just a threat at the rim. If you gave him space on the perimeter, he’d let it fly from three without hesitation. VanSlyke played with a ton of confidence and had that scorer’s mentality, but it never felt forced. Everything he did flowed with the game. Just one of those guys you trust to make something happen whenever the ball’s in his hands

Weston, a bigger wing, showed his ability to knock down shots from the perimeter while also posting up smaller guards. His versatility and size made him a mismatch for opponents, whether on the outside or in the paint.
