About Tuff
Expert Analysis
Duvalier Johnson | Prep Hoops Scout
Tuff is the newest member of the 1,000 points scored club, and he just did it in his last game. The incredible feat came 11 games into the season, and I truly believe he could reach the 2000 points scored mark when it is all said and done. He’s the reigning 1A player of the year, and he’s a player who uses his size and skill to his advantage so much that it looks like he’s playing a different game than the other players. He grabs boards at a high rate and starts the break. He finishes with contact on great efficiency and cannot be denied getting to his spots. He’s putting up 19.3 points a game this season as an inside assertive attacker. He’s a player that opposing teams have a difficult time slowing down and is going to continue lighting teams up.

Kelley remains the engine that drives McClave’s success and a major reason for their hot 6–1 start. Averaging 19.3 points and 12.1 rebounds, he’s turned into a true interior force who owns the paint. He finishes strong at the rim, attacks the glass relentlessly and brings energy with emphatic throw downs. What’s elevated his impact even more is the growth in his midrange and perimeter shooting, forcing defenses to respect him everywhere. That expanded offensive game, paired with his physical presence, has made Kelley one of the toughest matchups around

Kelley is the do it all for McClave and is often celebrated for his offensive skills, but his defensive presence is equally impressive. Averaging 3.7 blocks and 12 rebounds per game, he anchors the paint with authority. Kelley’s timing, anticipation and physicality allow him to alter shots and control the boards, making it difficult for opponents to establish inside rhythm. His defensive effort doesn’t just stop plays and it creates transition opportunities and energizes his team. Balancing scoring with dominant interior defense, Kelley proves he’s a complete player whose impact is felt on both ends of the floor every night

is a state champion this year after he had a monster season and heads into his junior season with a taste of what it feels like at the top. But still he is an overlooked prospect that can turn more heads by battling and dominating the prospects in higher classifications. Kelley is a multi-sport standout who is one of the best athletes at any small school across the state. He can take over on either side of the ball and with a big showing can rise even more and be a more relevant name. We’d love to have him.

Kelley plays big inside and makes an impact on both ends of the court. If you forget about him when he’s beyond the arc—he’s dangerous there too. His ball handling skills are solid, which makes him tough for defenders. Offensively, he’s always going up strong around the hoop, whether it’s for a shot or a rebound. Kelley’s got a quick release on his shot and can knock down 3-pointers from the corner with ease. On defense, his presence in the lane forces opponents to adjust their shots, leading to deflections and misses. What really stands out about Kelley is his work ethic to play through contact and never gives up on a play

Kelley boasts a high motor, already displaying dominance at an early stage within the 1A level. Leading the program to a 21-5 record and 1A title appearance, generating countless second chance opportunities. What allows Kelley to be so successful is not just the size, but mobility to get into the paint early and cause trouble for opposing defensive rebounders. His soft touch with either hand lets him get up quick finishes past the contest. Throughout June, he shot the ball a bit more from mid-range areas, showing signs of stretching out the range in due time. Few names in the class work for second chance opportunities to Kelley’s degree, always in the thick of it versus opposing defenders.

Kelley brings in a constant motor on the boards, particularly for second chance opportunities. Playing a pivotal role in McClave’s success deep into the postseason, the forward has found immediate success. As he continues to add strength and shotmaking versatility, Kelley could be one of the most productive names in the entire state in due time. As he continues to stretch out his offensive game, there are few areas on the floor where he cannot make an impact.

Kelley’s high motor allows him to be a constant threat on the glass, alongside his soft touch at the basket while going through contact. Bringing in a fairly strong frame at roughly 6’4, he is a legitimate name to follow, even while competing at one of the state’s premier 1A programs in McClave.

The high motor forward who put up lofty numbers from the jump with his time at McClave, Kelley brings a quick burst getting up for putbacks around the rim. His second and third jumps for rebounds are a fair bit quicker than opponents, leaving them with much fewer opportunities to secure the board. Although primarily a scoring option around the rim, Kelley is continuing to show growth as a driver, attacking from the elbows or top of the key. Not just a rebounder and scoring option, Kelley repeatedly facilitated cuts and post options, locating passes through tight windows.
