As a freshman, Hankins played in the 6A State Title game. If Tuesday night was any indication, he might finish his career in the title game too. Scored a team high 19 points, while also playing amazing defense (4 steals) and handing out 6 assists. Complete guard, who clearly has the big game gene.

Another prospect who made the jump from underclassman sharpshooting to complete scorer. Tight handle and quality crossover has turned him into an off the dribble threat. Smooth and plays at his own pace as a scorer. Has flashed clutch genes throughout his high school career. From playing an impactful role as a freshman on a State runner up squad, to a barrage of three pointers in one contested that single handily forced OT and a big victory. The improved athleticism and scoring chops at a national level of AAU basketball has set the stage for Hankins to potentially make another jump this senior as a complete offensive weapon for Moore.

College programs looking for perimeter shooters would do well to check out Hankins, who will be running with Trae Young’s 3GSB in Bryan, Texas this weekend. He’s one of the headliners for a talented group of Oklahoma guards at the Gold level of the Adidas circuit. The 2025 guard is maturing into a full scorer, with a great jumper to fall back on. His plus wingspan and good athleticism also gives him the ability to match up with bigger guards and wings on the defensive end.

With a national schedule awaiting Hankins, it was good to get another reference point of his complete offensive game shining. Hankins remains a big time threat from three, but when given the freedom to play as an attacker he has thrived this spring. He remains a long distance threat, but in two tournaments this Norman in spring he has shown his adeptness at attacking downhill and thriving. While he can hit contested stepbacks, his willingness to get downhill has made him one of the better scorers watched this spring. Given the nature of current college basketball recruitment, he’s one of the best candidates in the Class of 2025 to fit into the JuCo-D1 trail that is starting to be blazed by more and more Oklahomans.

The junior was the hero for the Lions down the stretch, the sharpshooter caught fire from deep hitting tough jumper after jumper to fuel the comeback and force overtime. But even before he got it going from distance, he made tough plays throughout the contest to keep his team’s head above water. Since stepping on the court as a freshman, he’s been one of the better shooters in the 2025 class. Now he’s gradually added more to his game, as evident by tonight with his ability to be physical and get points even when not connecting from distance. And when he does heat up from deep, tonight was proof that he can string together game changing makes.
A long term aspect to keep an eye does center around his athleticism. Last year, Hankins looked more explosive and quicker off the bounce. But tonight he was sporting a knee brace on his right knee, which could be why some of his movements looked stiffer and not as fluid. Still, he was the best player on the court down the stretch, and if he’s doing that while playing through a minor injury that’s all the more impressive.

Hankins is one of the top shooters in the Class of 2025, and he knocked down a few triples and one in the midrange. But what was even more impressive was how he operated in the flow of the game. Often when players that are transitioning from being “just a shooter” they can force the issue too much in an attempt to show off their developing skills.
Hankins did a great job of occasionally getting to the rim himself, but also racking up assists. Sometimes it would be a “simple” pitch ahead in transition, which frankly after watching a winter of high school basketball, the simple read in a 2 on 1 or 3 on 2 transition situation isn’t as simple as it used to be. All night long, Hankins made the “simple” pass and kept the offense flowing. Having an elite trait (shooting), plus operating well in the flow of an offense are great building blocks.

After making spot starts and being a key contributor as a freshman thanks to his shooting ability, the expectations are high for Hankins to make a sophomore leap. Based on his summer performance and his recent offer from Oral Roberts, there’s a good chance he’ll thrive with his increased role. He’ll still be among the best shooters in the state, but will also likely spend more time on the ball. Which he has shown potential to do just that and would have multiple benefits. Hankins becoming more of a combo guard, or even a point guard would likely elevate the athletic roster around him. While also making him a more appealing prospect to college coaches.
