Upchurch Jr. was one of the most explosive athletes I saw at Monday’s showcase. He’s only 6-feet but can get above the rim for dunks and is a complete menace while attacking downhill. He’s lightning quick when it comes to getting my defenders but also has the handle necessary to be under control while under tons of pressure. I was also super impressed with his passing ability; he was throwing one-handed live-dribble passes with both hands and really understands how to manipulate the defense with his eyes. Upchurch Jr. seems like an excellent D3 player who could probably play at lots of D2 schools.

Upchurch did a good job contributing in all facets of the game. His small stature lets him wiggle to different spots off the bounce with ease. He is a frequent paint toucher when going downhill. He showed that he could find his teammates for scoring looks of their own. Upchurch also scored the ball in different ways throughout the day. He did job of playing at different gears. Upchurch motored to spots coast to coast on the attack. I was impressed that Upchurch didn’t let the ball stick to his hands that much in prior viewing experiences that was one of his weaknesses I thought. He has great spring in his step which allows him to be very agile. Upchurch would be a great late pickup at the small college or junior college level.

popped during the scrimmages, and I couldn’t take my eyes off him. What stood out the most was his speed and athletic gifts. Nobody could contain him on his drives, and was easily getting paint touches with little effort at all. It resulted in defenders just fouling him at points and he was still finishing through contact and getting to the free-throw line. His playmaking ability also was impressive, finding open teammates when he was double-teamed and gaining assists like clockwork by leveraging his scoring gravity for the betterment of his team. He was dominant the entire night and was my top standout at the event.

Upchurch was solid in Notre Dames playoff run and did a good job of running the offense in their game against Notre Dame- Fairfield. He makes sure his teammates are in the right spots and has a knack for finding the open man.

Travis is a super quick, and skilled guard. He has an explosive first step, and a very effective crossover. He is still growing and developing his frame, but he is already showing the ability to finish over bigger defenders, and absorb contact. He is a guard, who can run the offense, and doesn’t turn the ball over a lot. He is improving his shot and that will make him a three level scorer. He plays bigger than his listed size. He plays with high energy on defense and is active in the passing lanes. He has very good lateral quickness, and does a good job cutting off angles for ball handlers. Travis has a lot of potential, and will continue to raise his stock this coming season.
