Travis Stickney
About Travis
Expert Analysis
Bret Swanson | Prep Hoops Scout
Stickney has the ability to get by defenders on the way to the basket. Travis will finish at the cup with either hand. He constantly brings ball pressure on the defensive end of the floor while creating some havoc to go with it. Travis makes winning plays that turn into HUSTLE plays at all times. He’s a deceptive athlete from the backcourt.

Stickney is like a pit-bull at times with his toughness he brings to the floor. Travis switches hands very nicely on the way to the cup. He’s quite deceptive with his athleticism at times and really brings a competitive edge to the floor.
Stickney ran with the Charleston Raptors this past summer on the Grassroots Circuit. He previously ran with Lowcountry Storm for a few years. Travis averaged 10.8 ppg last season for the Landsharks who lost in the SCHSL Class 2A State Championship game to Gray Collegiate.

Stickney might not make the highlight plays or score 20 a night like some of the other players on this list, but he is as deserving of a spot as anyone else. Travis is super consistent and is a true Floor General Point Guard, setting the tone with hustle plays on both ends of the floor. He also has a very good handle and elite vision making him a guy that teammates love to play with. Travis was good playing Grassroots Ball with Charleston Raptors, but stood out most to me at the Sizzlin’ Summer Shootout playing for Oceanside Collegiate. Stickney’s top performances helped the Landsharks win the Gold Bracket knocking off a handful of the projected top teams in the state. Travis received offers from Bob Jones and North Greenville during the month of July.

Stickney, the lead guard for the older Charleston Raptors group, is also a terrific playmaker. At times it feels like Travis has the ball on a string navigating through defenses. He also has extremely good vision and knows exactly how his teammates want to receive the ball. Travis will also make the hustle plays: diving for loose balls, getting tie-ups, and taking charges. In a matchup with Run the Citi on Saturday Morning, Travis finished with 7 Assists and 3 Steals in a close loss.

Travis was great all spring and summer with his play from the backcourt. Stickney is a deceptive athlete who played up an age group with his local team the Low Country Storm. Travis will never backdown from a challenge on the floor. He finishes with both hands at the rack on a regular basis. Stickney can stick a nice mid-range jumper when he isn’t jumping on the floor for a loose ball or taking a charge on the defensive end.
