About Tariq

How would you briefly describe your gameplay style?

Quick, shifty and smart play maker who plays defense 94 feet. Can score on three levels but focuses on setting up teammates for open shots. Pushes the tempo of the game and controls the flow of the offense. REBOUNDS THE BASKETBALL!

Can you provide a brief description of your mentality or personality?

Blue collar mentality. Focus is to outwork and wear out the competition. I either win or learn because I never lose. My motto is “Don’t talk about it, BE about it!”

Are you involved in any clubs, organizations, or have you received any non-sport awards?

I am a member of the National Society of High School Scholars. I have received numerous awards for being a 4.0 student since 6th grade.

What skills or qualities have you developed, such as leadership, teamwork, or community service?

I am a member of the Sacramento Barons club. We conduct community service projects, we play in basketball tournaments against other Asian church clubs, we hold team building camps and we mentor younger children.

Have you faced any significant challenges? If so, please describe.

I faced adversity my junior year in high school. I felt I was being typecasted and treated unfairly because of my size instead of being judged by my character and playing ability and performance. It was tough because I am a gritty competitor. I had never sat during games like that so I had to swallow my pride and train harder to get faster and stronger. I performed great in spring and summer!

What type of college are you looking for?

I want to go to a college where you can build relationships with coaches and professors. I want my college to have a personal feel to it. I also want a great academic experience to prepare me to work in my area of interest and be successful.

He’s a superb ball handling point guard with a bit of a chip on his shoulder. He has quickness to attack from the top and other angles. He has a nice off the dribble jump shot. He has vision and sees the floor to find shooters, cutters, and feed the post. He’s hard to shake when pressuring the ball handler. He’ll be a contributor on the Varsity.
