Stetson Merritt
About Stetson
Expert Analysis
Robbie Hodin | Prep Hoops Scout
Merritt, alongside Cook, carried the offensive load for New Hampton down the stretch of yesterday’s wire-to-wire win over Bridgton. The 6-foot-3 guard has special stop-and-go dribble moves and is ridiculously shifty with the rock in his hands. But when he is making shots from three, like he was in yesterday’s second half, he’s one of the most difficult guard covers in the NEPSAC. He can score from all three levels and is electric when he’s feeling confident. Merritt will be a key piece of New Hampton’s attack moving forward—they’ll really need him against a tough Newman squad in their semifinal matchup.

Second game watching Stetson and he was solid in both games. He is with out question climbing my personal rankings after posting 19 & 22 points respectively. He is a true scorer that makes his buckets look elegant. He had a couple of gentle floaters. Has one of the softest three point touches I have seen this year, making 3’s at a 45 degree angle from the wing and corners off the catch. Stetson made perfect entry passes to the low post so his guy only had to make one move. He also does it on the defensive side, having a well timed blitz and strip. Stetson will continue to grow and rise to the occasion earning D1 offers.

couldn’t find his shooting touch (a total rarity), it was Merritt that picked up a big portion of the offensive load for New Hampton. He had a huge second half in a loss against CATS on Saturday, showcasing his ability to knock down shots with range off of the catch and the dribble, as well as the slippery and crafty dribble game he has been known to have in his bag. He’s super quick, super athletic, long and wiry, and he still has another year to figure it out. Merritt is a total stud who should continue to get lots of looks at the D1 level. Some added strength would be huge for him, too.

Merritt, out of the New Hampton School in New Hampshire, checks in at #9 among the shooting guards and #42 overall. Merritt wasted no time introducing himself to New England, with 32 points in his debut for New Hampton. He’s a three level scorer that is comfortable dribbling into his shots, while also showing a high level feel as an off ball mover and cutter. He’s terrific in catch and shoot situations from behind the arc and shows some wiggle off the bounce as an isolation scorer.

Merritt is a special ball-handler and creator—he looks like he was built to have the rock in his hands. He has an amazing stop and go, herky-jerk style of dribbling, and it makes him incredibly difficult to stay in front of. Even though he isn’t the strongest or biggest, he can get to his spots in the mid range or at the hoop effortlessly, and he’s a phenomenal shot maker in those situations. Merritt is going to play a massive role for New Hampton this season and should be garnering division 1 looks. He has an amazing feel for the game and is only a junior. Bright future ahead.

Merritt, a scoring guard out of the New Hampton School, checks in at #36 overall and #9 among the shooting guards. Merritt should be one of the better newcomers in the NESCAC this season, with his combination of scoring, playmaking, and defensive versatility. He’s a rugged 6’3″ guard that plays with skill and toughness, has the ability to make shots from behind the arc, and is evolving as a decision maker with the ball in his hands. Defensively, he can guard any perimeter spot, does a nice job of keeping opponents out of the paint, and isn’t afraid to mix it up as a rebounder.

Merritt is an athletic guard from Troy, New York who made his debut for New Hampton this weekend and impacted the game in a variety of ways. The 6-foot-3 guard is able to play both on and off the ball as a result of his ball handling, feel for the game, and shooting ability, but he’s most impressive when getting into the lane and using his off hand to get floaters and mid rangers off. He’s so under control and changes speeds/directions very efficiently and effectively. He also defends like a madman and should cause hell for opposing guards this season. Excited to watch him play with Tabales and develop some chemistry.
