Expert Analysis
Ryan Morgan | Prep Hoops Scout
Another Jackson Timberwolf on a tear this season, McFerran has been an absolute workhorse on the glass. He’s averaging 16.4 points and 14.5 rebounds per game but has the ability to dominate any given game on the glass. He’s had 10 games this year with 15+ rebounds and four with 19+ boards. He’s 6-foot-7 and long, and while he’s doing a ton of work in the paint, he can also work off the perimeter to get to the cup or spot up and bury some 3s. He’s up from 9.5 points and 9.3 rebounds as a junior and will be a big factor as they approach the playoffs.

McFerran is a player I’ve been watching and waiting to take that next big step for a while now. He’s been a steady improver but with his length and ability, there is another level for him to reach. He has great length, makes plays at the rim on both ends and specifically does a great job timing blocks. But for him to take that next step, he has to either get stronger, more effective from the 3-point line, or both. If he can take that next step, he could be a big name to watch in the WesCo next season.

McFerran is one of the more interesting names on this list. He’s tall, lanky, plays inside and out, but when I’ve watched him he lacks a little consistency. There is a big opportunity for Jackson in the Wesco 4A this season and McFerran could be the difference for them. He can hit the three, has good leaping ability that plays at the rim, and works hard to make plays. If he can be a little more consistent this season, he could break out in a big way.

McFerran is a long wing who can affect the game inside and out. He hits the three-ball with growing efficiency, has a pretty good handle for his size and length, and is a decent leaper at the rim. He’s also a wiry guy that can make an impact on the boards as long as he’s mixing it up in the paint. This guy has the potential to make a big leap this season and if he does, look for Jackson to be a problem in the Wesco 4A.
