About Ryan
Expert Analysis
Ross Van De Griek | Prep Hoops Scout
The 6-8 senior power forward and Virginia Tech commit missed the first half of the season, due to a knee injury. Jones is an elite rebounder and scorer from all three levels on the offensive end. He has continued to gain consistency as he plays with a ton of length and physicality and he has a great feel and understanding of the game. Defensively, Jones isn’t the quickest when it comes to guarding out on the perimeter but knows where his spots are and has a strong nose for the basketball. Jones can also initiate the offense as his handles have continued to improve where he is a good decision-maker when it comes to shooting versus passing the ball.

Ryan Jones, A 6-9 power forward has drawn a lot of attention since his 8th Grade year is a traditional back-to-the-basket type of player but has polished his game into being more of a viable three-level scoring threat lately. Jones is also a high-level rebounder where he can push the basketball in transition whether it’s knocking down shots off the bounce or off the catch. Look for Jones to have a more poised senior season where he is being heavily recruited by Florida, Miami, Missouri, Virginia Tech, Xavier and several others.

The 6-9 power forward has a modern game as he increased his ability to shoot from beyond the arc at a consistent rate last season for The Rock. Jones is also great when he is posting up and finishing around the rim as his smooth touch continues to take notice. On the defensive side, Jones can be a perennial shot blocker and rim protector as he uses his length averaging nearly 9 rebounds per game. Jones holds offers from Florida, Georgia Tech, Illinois, LSU, Missouri and several others.

Anytime you see a player standing at 6’9 that can step out and knock down three-point shots with consistency, you have to be impressed. That’s exactly what we saw from him on Friday in their matchup with ACA. He caught fire early on which helped to give his team a nice early lead that only continued to grow into halftime, finishing with 25 Points as his team took home the double-digit win.
