Ferguson shared the unofficial co-MVP honors with Affayroux and was turning some heads all Saturday morning and afternoon. Ronmel is smooth as they come offensively in the freshman class, always under control and using a hesitation dribble to completely freeze defenders. Ferguson on his 1-2 crossover can pull-up, make a decisive pass to an open teammate, or get downhill making him a nightmare to guard in the half court and in transition. His balance and his ability to gain advantage is already so developed, making him a lethal scoring threat when given the opportunity. The six-foot point guard has a nice looking jump shot to round out his offensive game. Ferguson figures to be in the mix for immediate playing time at Wisconsin Rapids, and should be considered in the 2030 initial rankings.

I only saw Ronmel during the 3v3 portion of the showcase, but he had the most impressive change-of-speed that I saw out of any guard yesterday. Ferguson was freezing defenders with his hesitation move, and then blowing by them to either get to the rim or get into his pull-up jumper. So unpredictable with the ball in his hands. He’s not just a scorer either, as Ronmel dished out some impressive no-look assists to set up his teammates around the rim. One to watch for out of Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln.

Ferguson grew up in the D.C. Everest program, but he moved to Wisconsin Rapids over the summer and has enrolled at Lincoln High School. He figures to immediately contend for a starting spot with the Red Raiders as his quickness, ball skills and feel for the game are going to be big assets for coach Phil Jagielo. Ferguson performed well for Wisconsin Rapids on the summer high school circuit and joins a program that brings back four players who started at times last winter on a 6-20 squad.

Another future top 20 (in my opinion) member of the 2030 class, Ferguson has impressed me in the handful of his games that I have watched this summer. Fluid, athletic player who plays under control, has great court vision, and seems to always make the correct read whether that is hitting cutting teammates, or calling his own number and getting to the rim, at will and finishing through contact with either hand. Defensively he has stood out, due to his timing and athleticism blocking or altering shots at the rim and on the perimeter.

It is hard to believe that Ferguson is only an incoming freshman with how fluid he moves and the maturity in his game. Very athletic player who plays under control and always has his head up looking for the correct read. Equally comfortable showing great court vision, hitting cutting teammates, or calling his own number and getting to the rim, at will and finishing through contact with either hand. Defensively used great timing, and jumping ability to block or alter shots all weekend and, in my opinion, should break in the top 10 in the class of 2030 rankings shortly.

Ronmel is another intriguing prospect coming up out of the Wisconsin Academy program. The 2030 guard got off to a hot start in the 13u semi-finals, knocking down a pair of threes while getting to the rim for two more buckets within the opening few minutes. He was bringing energy to both ends of the floor, and had his team fired up against a loaded Mac Irvin Fire team. Although they fell just short in the end, I liked the competitive edge he showed. Already standing at 5’9, he has a long and athletic frame that bodes well as he continues to develop in his last year before high school.
