A hidden gem in southern Oklahoma. Cason has next level height with fluid movements for a player his size, which gives him big time upside as a versatile defensive player at the next level. There’s promise on the offensive end with the potential to be a floor spacer as a stretch big. Once the Kingston standout physically fills out in college, he has one of the higher ceilings of any 2024 prospect in Oklahoma.

Tucked away in southern Oklahoma, Cason has one of the more appealing profiles to college coaches. He’s tall, a legit 6 foot 9, possibly pushing 6 foot 10, and he can move very well laterally for a player his size. He even knocks in the occasion three and there’s real promise with his overall touch. He could be a very dangerous threat as a screener, either rolling to the rim with his verticality or possibly as a pop threat. In his highlights videos and an in person viewing, he’s shown the ability to switch onto the perimeter and be a disruptive player who can cause havoc with his height, wingspan and moving his feet. A recent offer from Air Force (along with his high academic marks) indicate he’s a great candidate to be a prospect who’s logging key minutes at a D1 program in a few years and people go “Oh he’s from Oklahoma? I didn’t know that”.

Kingston’s size advantage was too much for Atoka on the night and it started with the presence of the gigantic senior big man. He pairs his ability to easily cover ground as a smart defender that leans on verticality over trying to block every shot. That timing and understanding was also apparent a couple times where he was left on an island vs guards. He didn’t panic, he moved his feet and forced misses without fouling. On the offensive end with his teammates raining threes all night it was a quieter night. He did step out and nail a three, which also picking up the scraps and doing some damage around the rim.
This is the third viewing of Cason this year, and once again it feels like there’s some major untapped potential. The biggest play that pointed to came in the second half. He was the release valve near the three point line while Atoka was pressuring his teammates. Cason caught a pass, put it on the deck and was quickly at the rim. The senior finished through contact but didn’t get the rim rattling slam that would’ve went viral. It was still an impressive sign of his ceiling remaining high because he’s a plus athlete for a player of his height.

A trip to the Boomarang Classic was a rare game outside of southern Oklahoma for Kingston, and a perfect chance to get an in-person look at one of the most intriguing prospect in Oklahoma’s senior class. When watching Cason on video for the last year, he’s looks the part with fantastic movement for a player his size. But one thing is often missing from the average broadcast or video of a high school basketball game. Physicality. The stark contrast between watching players in person and on a computer screen has felt even more apparent in recent weeks, so it became a priority to catch a Kingston game in person.
Cason likely won’t ever be confused with a body builder. But he looks like he will be able to put on good weight with natural maturity and a college level training program. And most importantly, he plays with more of an edge than he did the last time I got extended looks at him during the spring of his sophomore to junior year. He runs the floor hard in transition, he digs his way inside to establish position down low. And most importantly, he tries to dunk everything. Late in the game with Kingston chasing points, it was Cason at the top of their zone trapping and chasing smaller guards. He did successful cause havoc, forcing a couple turnovers. Which speaks to just how mobile and agile he is for his size.
If the southern Oklahoma prospect played in either of the two metro areas of Oklahoma, the buzz around him would be quite loud. As is, with his high upside and high academic profile, Cason is shaping up to be one the best long term bets for success among the Oklahoma seniors.

The southern Oklahoma giant made a living on the rims in Ada. He consistently established himself in deep position to catch lobs, or passes deep in the post and quickly convert them into dunks. Or even soft finishes around the rim. Late in the second quarter, he picked up his third foul. After checking out to end the first half, he was able to play all of the second half and overtime without fouling out. That did impact some of his aggressiveness on rebounding and shot blocking, but was still a good testament to the awareness of Cason. Along with making his living at the rim, he can had a couple promising moments of pairing his great movement with putting the ball on the deck. He’s quite fluid for a player his size.
A target for high academic programs back east, Cason is likely the most undervalued long term 2024 prospect in Oklahoma. His combination of height and agility are excellent building blocks for a player who quietly has a chance to have one of the longer and productive college careers of any current senior in Oklahoma.

After helping Kingston to the Class 3A State Tournament as a sophomore, Cason and his teammates had a down year with their season finishing in Regionals. The then junior still has impressive individual displays, especially with his shooting touch that extends out to the three point. Cason is a high upside prospect, who looks set to finish his senior season strong as one of the few “giant” post players in Oklahoma.

The small town standout from southern Oklahoma recently picked up a D1 offer from Penn. Cason had a productive junior campaign with Kingston and has been put on the national radar with Team Trae Young’s 17U squad on the 3 Stripes Circuit. He’s a high GPA prospect, that has the size and toughness to mix it up in the paint.

It’s hard to make definitive claims about stats in high school basketball and high school sports in general. But we would have to think that Kingston junior Reid Cason Reid Cason 6'9" | C Kingston | 2024 State OK has to be near the top of the list if not at the top in terms of players who have finished with 20 points and 10 rebounds this season. Cason has not only been a double-double machine for the Redskins this season, he’s been consistently putting up at least 20 and 10 all year. Cason is definitely a candidate for one of the top breakout stars around Oklahoma from this winter. We didn’t know much about Cason heading into the year but you can’t argue with the production that he’s had at such a consistent level. Close to a year ago, we heard about Cason playing at that pretty consistent level. It also seems like he’s grown three to four inches during that time and has turned into a very intriguing prospect moving forward. We hope to see the small school standout several times during the spring and summer.
