Harlan County is a balanced team with multiple good players but they are much better when Reggie is playing well. Cottrell is a good athlete who is capable of sitting down and guarding at a high level. Reggie is also a bouncy player who finishes well around the rim. The Black Bears don’t need him to score a ton but they do play much better when Cottrell is impacting winning with rebounding and defense.

Cottrell became a legend at last year’s KHSAA Sweet 16 thanks to his long hair and high motor that often had him looking like if Cousin IT from the Addams Family had picked up a basketball. Reggie was unfortunately injured in a Fireworks accident this summer and lost a finger. Harlan County was going to struggle to replace the production of Trent Noah but now Reggie is a real X-factor as we don’t know how effective he will be with his new circumstances. Definitely something to watch as the Black Bears will hope to win the region again in 2025.

Reggie stole the show at Rupp Arena with his hair (straight from an 80s rock video) but he’s also a talented player with a bright future. Cottrell will go from third offensive option to second option next season. He averaged 9 points and 4 rebounds per game as a Sophomore and is living in the gym so far this offseason. Keep an eye on Reggie as a difference maker in the 13th next season.

Harlan County doesn’t beat the Camels in the quarter finals if it isn’t for Cottrell. He had the two most important plays of the game knocking down a 3 in the start of overtime and getting a steal on the following play which ignited Harlan on a run and eventually win the game. He played extremely hard and was disruptive defensively and caused havoc. Cottrell was an extremely important piece for them.
