Reese Snellman
Reese Snellman
About Reese
Expert Analysis
Ryan Morgan | Prep Hoops Scout
Strengths: Ball Control, Getting to the Middle, Decision-Making
Breakdown: No matter the atmosphere, Snellman plays his game and is a consistent force at point guard. He is a tireless worker who does a great job keeping his defender off-balance with his dribble in order to keep space to take care of the ball and make plays. He does a good job finding angles and using the glass inside, incorporating runners and floaters to hit from soft spots in the defense.
Outlook: Reese’s strength is ball control and running an offense. The 3-point shot comes and goes but with a little more work it could be a real strength for him. Defensively, he is max effort and although he’ll probably have to quicken the feet up a little bit, he has potential to be a solid defender at the point of attack.
Offers: None
Interest: Central Washington University, North Idaho College, Spokane CC, Carroll College

It is not surprising to see Snellman have this sort of early season success, but more of a validation of what he showed over the summer. He comes over to a Ferris team with a lot of upheaval from last year’s starting five and he immediately has inserted stability and leadership to this Saxons squad. He played an outstanding game against North Central on Tuesday night, scoring the ball from inside and out, while also making great decisions across the board. He knows when to take chances and recognizes how to attack defenses to not only get his own looks, but to shift defenders and create gaps for teammates to make plays. He was nearly flawless against the Wolfpack and he should continue to have this sort of impact throughout the season.

He really showed his brain off at the expo, catching other players on their mistakes (loose dribbles, lazy defense) and displaying one of the most controlled handles of all the players there. Time and again, Snellman used his quick crossover to beat defenders and get to the hoop where he finishes strong and with a variety of moves. He was aggressive, controlled, and quietly dominated play with his attacking abilities. The heady point guard is one to watch as he heads back over to Eastern Washington for the high school season.

Snellman shifts over to run the show for Ferris this season. With only two returning varsity players, there will be a lot of room for Snellman to make an impact. He’s a tough-nosed guard with a knack for finishing in traffic. He’s a guy who can control the pace and really turn things up when he wants. It will be fun to see how he fits into the Greater Spokane League where there is plenty of talent.

I have seen him play in person and I was impressed. He’s a relentless attacker who gets downhill with a purpose. He can finish well around the basket and has great body control. He is a good shooter as well and is another one who might be flying under the radar a bit. He’s built solid and is deceptively quick with the dribble. I expect him to have a good showing, just as he did the last time I saw him. He knows how to get buckets!
