One of the top overall athletes in the class, Shelton is a fluid and agile guard. His ability to change gears without slowing down makes him a terror in the small school ranks. Which allows him to live at the rim where he’s a quality finisher, while also being able to stop on a dime in the mid-range. Shelton is also a football standout, and as football prospects are often offered earlier there’s a decent chance his future lies on the gridiron. But if he were to choose basketball, his raw athletic ability places him as a very interesting long term upside bet.

The small school wildcard on the list, Shelton passes the initial eye test with effortless movements that blend his good athleticism with handles and shooting ability. He’s fluid while pulling up off the dribble, while also a natural at getting downhill and finishing in traffic. There’s even flashes of good creative upside with some of the vision he shows when passing.
Shelton is also a top football prospect. Recently in Oklahoma, football has often won out as the career path for elite prospects. But the upside is there for the southern Oklahoma standout to also blossom on the basketball court.

stood out as a true team leader and floor general who stayed locked into the action no matter what was transpiring on the floor. Shelton was the type of player that brought an infectious energy to the entire game as he played with a passion and love for the competitive aspect of the game. He crashed the boards, set teammates up, locked down on defense and forced turnovers, and put up points from all three levels of the floor. As the top shot creator in the division, Shelton played with confidence, make or miss, while proving to be unguardable in isolation partly due to his shifty, crafty, unpluckable handle. The freshman guard also showed off his polished footwork while penetrating the lane, particularly with his knack for decelerating the moment he felt contact allowing him to maintain his balance and finish off one or two feet inside of the lane. But for someone who was such a good scorer, he still managed to keep his teammates involved and make them apart of the action.

Our final guard to watch is another 2026 prospect that got on our radar after standing out at the Freshman Showcase in August. Hugo guard

was one of the top overall performers at the event and the thing that stood out to us about his game was his on-ball defense. Like we wrote back in August, the thing that’s impressive at events like that is seeing how locked in guys are to play defense. And Shelton was arguably the best on-ball defender at the event. Not only does Shelton have the defense to lock up an opponent’s point guard, he also showed off plenty of skills on the offensive side of the floor. Shelton is definitely a name worth paying attention to going into this season. He’s one of the smaller guards in this group but he’s up near the top of the list in terms of his skill set already going into this season.
