Prater has evolved into Perry’s do-it-all glue guy and should remain so moving forward. He proved himself to be a three-level scorer who can get it done from anywhere on the offensive side of the court. He attacks the gap off the dribble and works efficiently as a playmaker once he gets to his spot. He also has springy athleticism that makes him a dangerous above-the-rim threat if he finds an opening and even more so in the open court. Filling out his thin frame and becoming a more willing shooting threat from deep, however, could turn him into a D1 prospect over the course of the next year.

As a younger prospect, every time I saw Nick play, he was relying more on his athleticism than his skill. As he’s matured, so has Prater’s game. A crucial third scoring option for the Commodores, Nick is a slashing wing who still uses his athleticism to elevate at the rim but he has also shown good defensive instincts which allow him to shoot gaps for steals on defense and get into transition off of steals. He’s proving to be one of the best young players in the mountains.

Prater had one of the more well known names in the 28 class coming into last season and did a good job of playing a role for Perry Central. Now a little bigger and a little stronger, Nick should be looked at to be a potential breakout candidate in the region and made a big impact for Perry in year two. A bouncy athlete, Prater has the length and versatility to be an impactful two way wing and make his way back up the class rankings.

Prater came out the gates firing with an early scoring outburst that had Ky Future Elite ahead for the first 10 minutes of the game. A wing who can attack off the dribble, crash the offensive glass and play under control, Prater shows an advanced feel for the game considering his age. I thought Prater attacked off the dribble with a purpose and did a solid job against swarming defensive pressure. Already a top 30 player in our Kentucky 2028 rankings, Prater has a bright future ahead of him.

Prater is one of the few 2028s from outside of Louisville who came into high school with some serious highlights. Thanks to his ability to dunk with authority in the 8th grade, Nick was already on the radar for a lot of folks in this Freshman class. Playing a bit of a smaller role at PCC, Prater is a player whose stock could explode during the upcoming AAU season.
