KHSAA Basketball season is officially underway and this season looks to be pretty open. There is so much talent in the bluegrass state right now and this season is shaping up to be a great one. It's time for my annual "Top 5 Preview" where I break down the top 5 teams and college prospects in each region. These are the top 5 college prospects, not the top 5 high school players right now.

Top 5 Teams:

Perry County Central - The Commodores return 3 of the top 4 players from last season and added an impact transfer in Trace Kincaid. Those 4 alone should combine for 50+ points per game, all season long.

Letcher County Central - Another roster that returns a bunch of firepower from last year. Jaden Amburgey, Cameron Hayes and Mason Boggs are all good players and Colton Delaney is an X factor for a team with dreams of Rupp Arena.

Knott County Central - Knott graduated a lot of their top talent but they remain a top 3 team because they always seem to end up in the top 3, regardless of their roster. Sophomore point guard Drew Little should be their leader and their leading scorer.

Hazard - The Bulldogs graduated a ton of talent and had their top returning scorer leave for Perry Central. They will be in reloading mode but Coach Huff is likely to have some talented young kids who are ready to step up for him.

Lee County - Corey Flinchum is the leading scorer in the state and should end up over 4,000 career points. The issue with Lee County is that they don't have a lot outside of Flinchum. If he can elevate the team, they will be in the mix because he averaged close to 40 points per game in his Junior season.

Top 5 College Prospects:

[player_tooltip player_id='2360954' first='Nick' last='Prater'], Perry County Central - The overall talent level in the 14th is down but Prater has the length and athleticism to make it to the scholarship level. Nick plays above the rim on offense and has the physical traits to be a good college player.

[player_tooltip player_id='2212469' first='Corey' last='Flinchum'], Lee County - As stated above, Corey is a big time scoring guard but he hasn't worked his way on to a ton of college radars. With the potential to score 40 points in any game, Flinchum will end up playing at the college level for sure.

[player_tooltip player_id='2335617' first='Caleb' last='Creech'], Wolfe County - A good athlete with a strong build, Caleb has the tools to make an impact on both ends of the court. Don't be surprised if Creech goes to the NAIA level and makes a splash, in due time.

[player_tooltip player_id='3735734' first='Cameron' last='Hayes'], Letcher County Central - Hayes is a consistent downhill driver and playmaker with the potential to heat up and take over games.

[player_tooltip player_id='3705052' first='Trace' last='Kincaid'], Perry County Central - The most impactful transfer in the region this past summer, Kincaid is drawing interest as a multisport athlete.

Most Likely Mr. Basketball Finalist:

[player_tooltip player_id='2212469' first='Corey' last='Flinchum'], Lee County
