Ryan Morgan | Prep Hoops Scout
Gonzaga Prep has gone on a run to end the regular season and start the playoffs, ripping off 10 wins in a row since a Jan. 12 loss to Mt. Spokane. They have a lot of guys that play a big role in their success, but the 6-foot-7 Christy poses a unique threat to opposing teams as a big guy who can do a little bit of it all. He’s not typically the kind of player that comes to mind when you say “playmaker,” but he’s a guy who can make all the passes from the arc or the high post into the interior. He has a good presence of mind to make the right read and has been knocking down 3s at a higher rate to really add to his perimeter game. On top of all that, he’s a highly active player around the rim on both ends and allows Gonzaga Prep to pose a lot of different looks for defenses.

Christy’s up to 6-foot-7 now and has looked a lot more physical this season, not just bumping down in the paint, but showing a little more explosion, a little more twitch, and thus is making stronger moves with the ball. He’ll be a key paint presence for the Bullpups on both ends and is an athletic enough front court player who can get up and down the floor.

Christy is a guy I was ready to wait on, as is the case with a lot of young bigs, but he has been thrust into playing solid minutes as the second big man for Gonzaga Prep and has not disappointed. He’s not scoring a ton or really filling up the stat sheet yet, but Christy holds down the middle on defense, quietly takes care of all his responsibilities, and does it well. The thing I like most about what he’s shown in the early season is his ability to outlet the ball quickly and with a purpose. He’s a strong rebounder and seemingly always knows where his outlets will be and looks up court to catch defenses in transition and steal easy buckets.
