Gueye put together an impressive shooting display, erupting from beyond the arc and knocking down several three-pointers throughout the game. Leave him open, and he will make defenses pay with his confident stroke and quick release. Beyond his scoring, Gueye’s leadership qualities stood out just as much. He was constantly communicating on the defensive end, barking out coverages and directing his teammates, showing the traits of a vocal floor leader. His active motor was evident on both ends of the floor, and he used his length effectively to alter shots and disrupt opposing offenses. Offensively, he also displayed good court vision by finding teammates in scoring positions and making the extra pass when needed. With his combination of shooting, defensive activity, leadership, and unselfish play, Gueye is a prospect worth monitoring closely over the next few years as his game continues to develop.

Gueye was one of RI Elite’s most confident penetrators and all-around offensive players on Saturday. The 6-foot-4 combo-guard has great size for his position, but he knows how to use his body effectively, which is more important; he plays at his own pace in the pick and roll, and he can handle and shoot it well enough to make the defense play him on the perimeter. Gueye is a super intriguing piece to RI Elite’s athletic and big 16u squad, and I’ll be curious to see how he continues to develop this season. He’s only a sophomore, so he has a lot more time to figure everything out.
