Another Wildcat that’s definitely not a total fresh face is Ratcliffe, but we’re including him here because he hasn’t played in over a year due to injury. It was refreshing to see the Wilsonville big man on the floor and while there’s no question some rust to shake off for the rising junior, but “Big Mike” looked solid. He was running the floor well, taking up space in the lane, and getting physical on the boards as he helped the Wildcats capture two wins on Sunday.
Made some great dishes across the paint from the blocks and was generally pretty quick to recognize doubles and get the ball out of trouble. He’s a big kid with some plus athleticism who still has a ton of potential to tap into and showed some of that with his toughness inside and his ability to step out away from the hoop and knock down some shots. Michael Ratliffe is an athletic forward with guard-like skills and a modern big’s versatility. At 6’8, he handles the ball exceptionally well for his size and is comfortable pushing the break after grabbing a rebound. He runs the floor with purpose, often beating other bigs down the court for easy finishes.
Ratliffe can score in multiple ways—he’s capable of posting up smaller defenders, but appears to be at his best facing up and attacking off the dribble. He uses his quickness to get by opposing bigs and has no problem finishing through contact at the rim. Ratliff has a reliable outside shot, he’s a frontcourt player who can stretch the floor and create mismatches all over.
Michael Ratliffe is quickly becoming one of the west coast most intriguing 2028 prospects.
Earlier this summer, Ratcliffe was already raising eyebrows – mainly because of his sheer size at almost 6-foot-8 in height and a body that’s not only mature but capable of putting on even more weight and strength. To add to his physical stature, the Wilsonville freshman also has some skills with the hoop facing the basket, so as much as he dominates the lane he can also step out and create. An outstanding rebounder and paint protector, the big man may start right away for the Wildcats.
Ratcliffe was clearly a notch above physically. He was a bully both in the paint and working off the bounce at times from further out. He worked extremely hard to get up and down, fight for extra rebounds, and establish good position and the basket. The big man also showed some surprising balance and control while playing downhill.
