Coming off the bench, Ellis provided instant offense with the ability to get places off the dribble. Attacking closeouts, getting downhill and finishing at the rim, Ellis scored a quick seven points that also included a 3-pointer. The other bench players who appeared in the game scored a combined two points while Ellis scored seven himself, a key X-factor in the game.

Maybe the clutchest shot in Ohio all season has been made by Ellis when down three against Reynoldsburg he knocked down a 3-pointer and the foul to steal a neutral court win against another Division I state title threat. Ellis can really shoot it from the outside and is playing his role well on one of the top teams in the state. The transition to college should be easier for Ellis as his current role mirrors what college programs will ask him to do at the next level. Saint Ignatius has a lot of small college talent in addition to their Division I prospects on the team.

Ellis had the play of the day when he made a four-point play with three seconds left to give Saint Ignatius the lead 98-97 over Reynoldsburg in a game of the year type contest. Even before this shot, Ellis was making plays left and right for his team, knocking down shots off the catch and making some confident plays off the bounce. By making plays all game, Ellis put himself in a position to win the game at the end and made as clutch of a shot that you’ll see all season. These two teams are near the top of Ohio’s Division I rankings and both teams will hope a rematch is in store in Dayton in March.

Saint Ignatius has a lot of talent and Ellis could have a key role as a scorer for a team that has a bunch of different guys that can hurt you on any given night. Ellis is an impressive shooter and knows how to attack a closeout, playing off the gravity his other guards provide. I expect college programs from all levels of college basketball to check out Saint Ignatius this winter and Ellis is a guy who should attract some small college interest this winter.
