Mathew is great at getting to the basket, especially from the high post. He attacks hard and finishes through traffic with force. He is insanely athletic, as I’ve seen him dunk from just inside the free throw line on a fast break as well as rip and go from the three point line for a slam down the paint. Against Lakewood on 12/14/2022, Russ dropped 23 points to help lead his team to the win.

He is having a great senior season as part of a good Blaine team with only one loss midway through the season. He is an athlete who can break down the defense at a high level. He has also shown a soft touch with his floaters or short jumpers in the lane which plays to his best skill set. He is a smooth-looking player who has improved enough in his last couple of seasons to see the ceiling is high for him. He can knock down threes, although not his strength. His shot has a high ceiling. He has explosive athletic ability, and a good feel for the game, especially when he is doing his thing getting to the rim. He can be a great defender on the perimeter. Blaine is a dangerous team with the trio of he, Carson Lehnert Carson Lehnert 6'3" | SG Blaine | 2023 State WA , and Lucas Smith Lucas Smith 6'4" Blaine | 2023 WA . They have others who can play too making them look like a serious Class 1A contender.

Mathew is an INSANE athlete. He jumps out of the gym, being able to rip and go from the three point line for a huge slam. He’s excellent from the high post. He can rise up for a nice mid-range jumper or find his open teammates. He hits the deep shot decently. His ceiling is very high.

Russ is just insanely athletic. There is no other way to put it. He can absolutely jump out of the gym and is likely the best dunker in the entire NWC conference. He casually puts down windmill dunks, in-game. That leads to create a lot of momentum and energy for the Borderites team. He plays very laid back, but is always involved in the game. He gets blocks easily on defense due to his athleticism as well. He hits the mid-range shot nicely and has been improving on his long range shooting as the season closes in.

Russ is extremely athletic, one of the most athletic players in the entire Northwest Conference. I watched him play multiple times over the summer and he can FLY! He attacks rim aggressively, embracing contact every time down the lane. Being so athletic, he can adjust smoothly in the air and finish around defenders down low. His jump-shot has been improving quite a bit and has proven he can’t be left wide open, or he will sink the shot. He should be a main part of the offense for the Borderites.
