Expert Analysis
Max Wagner | Prep Hoops Scout
Martez was one of the most explosive players in attendance, and he put that athleticism to use in transition. Not only was he picking up some dunks in the open floor, but he also hustled back on defense for a chase-down block that erased an easy two points. Martez does the bulk of his offensive work around the rim with quick cuts from the short corner or rolling to the basket. He also flashed a short/mid-range jumper though that he could get to off the dribble. Wise fought for offensive rebounds and quickly turned them into two points with the ability to go back up towards the basket, or elevate for a short jumper.

Martez was putting on a show at the Minnesota Prospect Camp, dunking everything whenever he got the opportunity. The unsigned senior is an athletic freak and was one of the most impressive jumpers I saw all day. If one of his teammates threw a lob anywhere in the vicinity of him, he was going to finish it off. The combination of Wise’s size and athleticism alone leaves him with high upside and loads of potential as a prospect. Martez was a key contributor for Cooper this year and helped them to a 18-6 regular season record. He averaged 14.4 points per game for a high scoring Hawks offense.

Wise’s explosiveness gave Cooper an extra spark offensively against Champlin Park. He has some length and bounce off two feet that allowed him to crash the glass and keep possessions alive for his team. Martez was relentless grabbing a missed shot and immediately going back up with it to finish through traffic. Also threw down a two hand dunk slashing in from the baseline. His effort on the glass alone makes for consistent production, and on Saturday morning it came in the form of 11 points in a win.

Now at Robbinsdale Cooper, Martez provides a nice option at the 3/4 spots. Even as more of an undersized four he plays way bigger than his size because of how explosive he is and how tenacious he is on the glass. He’s someone you want around the rim because he’s going to find ways to make plays. Wise runs the floor hard and is an above-the-rim threat in transition. Defensively he guards bigger forwards but has the mobility to switch out and defend on the wing as well. Showed some flashes of improved perimeter skillsets while also knocking down a handful of mid-range jumpers throughout the day.
