Expert Analysis
Kyle Sandy | Prep Hoops Scout
Melancon brings grown-man strength and embraces physicality. He thrives from 15 feet and in, where he uses his powerful frame to carve out space and bully defenders. He has the ball skills to get to his spots, often converting short jumpers and strong finishes around the rim. When he lowers his shoulder and commits to attacking the paint, he’s difficult to keep off the block. He rebounds in traffic and welcomes contact. The outside shot is respectable enough that defenders must close out, which only enhances his ability to attack off the catch. As his perimeter consistency continues to improve, his inside-out versatility becomes even more valuable. Melancon’s toughness and physical presence give him a defined identity.

Melancon is the ultimate glue guy that does things at both ends of the floor to help his team win games. Whether it’s scoring, defending, rebounding or making plays that don’t appear on the stat sheet, the Dutchtown product affects winning. Hold current D1 and D2 interest, Melancon increased aggressiveness at the offensive end will likely lead to more interest from college coaches.

was a spring stock riser with the

, now up to #16 in Georgia’s 2026 class. Melancon is a big, strong athlete that presents a ton of mismatch opportunities. He can physically dominate smaller perimeter players or pull bigs out with his skill and three-point shooting. Melancon also loves to push it in transition and create opportunities to finish at or above the rim. He should begin to hear from D1s sooner than later.

Eagles Landing enters the 2023-2024 season with a much different look after graduating David Thomas and several other key pieces but a strong 2026 class will help keep them in contention.

will play a crucial role and I expect his numbers to make a major jump from year one to year two. Melancon’s strength and physicality have always stood out, a handful for most seniors even. We saw him playing more like a guard throughout June as well and I think we’ll see more of that perimeter skillset throughout the season.
