We really like what senior guard Maddox Mecklenburg Maddox Mecklenburg 6'3" | CG Kingfisher | 2023 State OK brings to the table for the Yellowjackets. As one of the bigger guards on the team, Mecklenburg finds himself having to play in the paint quite a bit but to the surprise of absolutely nobody, the senior has embraced his role and has played well this season. Last year and throughout the summer, Mecklenburg showcased his ability to impact the game as a scorer. So it’s great to see him have success in several different roles. He’s another example of a traditional Kingfisher player that brings versatility. And while he might be playing in a role that is different from what he is as a college prospect, Mecklenburg doesn’t take any plays off and he puts the team success ahead of his own. That’s the common theme with players that have come out of Kingfisher and they are a big reason for the overall success.

One of the most complete players in the state, Mecklenburg is often the engine that keeps Kingfisher’s efficient offense running smoothly. He can hit shots from deep or use his strength to get to the rim, but perhaps most importantly is his exceptional passing touch. Mix in fundamentally sound and tenacious defense and he’s a big reason why the Yellowjackets won last year and will likely be headed back to the Big House in March.

Mecklenburg has a similar background to the previously mentioned Ridneour as last year’s season was his first taste of heavy action for Kingfisher. He flourished as a do it all guard, using his strong frame to be a tough defender and rebounder. Perhaps the most interesting part of his growing game over the last year has been his development as a passer. While not a traditional point guard, Mecklenburg’s combo of vision and unselfishness has been a key factor in why his high school and AAU team have had efficient and balanced offenses.  He might not put up the individual stats of others on this list, but winning pedigree and smart play should help the Yellowjacket guard earn collegiate opportunities.
