About Layton

How would you briefly describe your gameplay style?

I’m a 6'3" guard who can stretch the floor and score from outside, but I also play physical enough to defend bigger players and rebound. I focus on making the right play, bringing energy on defense, and doing the little things that help my team win

Can you provide a brief description of your mentality or personality?

I’d describe myself as a competitive and team-first player. I work hard, stay positive, and try to lift up my teammates. I’m coachable and always looking to improve

Are you involved in any clubs, organizations, or have you received any non-sport awards?

I’m involved in hunting, fishing and other outdoor related activities. I have trained retrievers to compete in hunt tests. Last year I was named KHSAA Academic All-State. These experiences have helped me develop leadership, responsibility, and teamwork skills that I bring to the basketball court as well

What skills or qualities have you developed, such as leadership, teamwork, or community service?

I’ve really developed as a leader by learning how to communicate with teammates and keep everyone engaged, even when things aren’t going well. Teamwork has been huge for me — I focus on making the right play and supporting others. Off the court, I try to carry myself the right way and give back where I can, whether that’s helping younger players or volunteering in my community.

Have you faced any significant challenges? If so, please describe.

A significant challenge for me has been making the decision on transferring to a new high school to focus on my career interest and waiting for KHSAA eligibility. I used the summer time to work on my skills, stay in shape, and building new relationships. It taught me patience, discipline, and how to stay motivated even when things don’t go as planned

What type of college are you looking for?

I’m looking for a college where I can continue to grow as a player and contribute right away, while also getting a strong education. I want a program where the coaches are invested in their players and where I can be part of a hard-working, supportive team culture. Ideally, it’s a place where I can challenge myself both on and off the court.
