Showed a knack for getting by defenders and creating from the paint, including a efficient euro step. Extra passes along the arc made the defense move, opening up distance shots for himself that he was able to knock down. Showed improving vision to find cutters and hit them in stride, while also using his eyes to lure defenders away from his target. His defensive intensity increased throughout the day, creating steals and showing a willingness to get on the floor. Even when he got beat, Sutton showed the speed to hustle back and apply pressure from behind.

Cooper Sutton is a left handed primary ball handler who operates with a smooth crisp handle and quick first step. I caught him in June during the Illinois Live Period and he showcased some of his same ability then as he did today. He effectively can get defenders leaning or off balance to get to his spots consistently. His undersized stature allows him to find quick angles to jet to. Even if his shot wasn’t falling at times today, he still was able to get a foot in the lane to then make proper reads within the offensive flow. Cooper’s mid range game deems to be pure as he got into his jumper off the bounce from around 15 feet as well.

Compact lefty guard with plus strength and a tight disciplined handle. Has burst in the open floor to gain an edge on defenders and break loose. Liked his ability to catch and square up and then make a move. Comfortable going into shot vs more lengthier guards because of rise and release on jumper. Midrange game is smooth off the bounce. Defensively will pressure on ball in man v man setting to help disrupt offensive flow. A shifty floor general that deems worthy to be tracked over next two years.

First look at Sutton and the 5’9” lefty point guard showed a ton of quickness off the bounce and creativity finishing at the rim.  Shifty takes for layups and works in shot fakes.  The southpaw also has a crisp pull up shot he hit off the bounce from mid-range and three.

Speedy lefty guard with some flair in his handling abilities and toughness mentality. Showed confidence in offensive rhythm. Utilizes ball screens with controlled shiftiness to create off the dribble. Splashed home a pull up 3 and a mid range off the bounce. Finished in transition with a euro-step and a one handed scoop over longer size. Competes hard defensively using speed and instincts to make plays.

Sutton, the point guard from Champaign Central, stood out as a defender. He consistently applied tight on-ball pressure, disrupting the offense with numerous deflections and forcing ball-handlers into uncomfortable situations. His hustle in transition defense was noticeable. Sutton’s quickness and agility made him a dynamic attacker offensively.
