After a monstrous junior year as the main man for Guthrie, Smedley is now a key cog for one of the top grassroots programs in the region. In the victory watched, he played his role well as a grinder providing off the ball scoring. Smart movements to the high post, cuts to the rim and physical finishes. Plays off of two feet, uses pump fakes and patience to score in traffic.
A high flyer in transition, the 2027 wing is sure to draw college coach’s attention with highlight reel plays. And then they’ll appreciate the consistent and smart ways he positively impacts games.

Few players in Oklahoma’s biggest classifications are producing at the level like Smedley is. His highlights are filled with ram rattling slams and explosive finishes when driving the line in the halfcourt. His athleticism alone would be one thing, but he’s a certified full scorer. Recently hanging 26 points on Midwest City, and more importantly getting the upset win. In that game, he showed translatable scoring in the highlights. Running off screens then catching and turning to hit in the mid-range and three with one fluid motion. Even had his range going to around the college three point line. The path to D1 straight out of high school has become difficult with transfers and college basketball getting older. But given his height, athleticism and mature, translatable scoring games. there are outcomes that could see Smedley blow up this spring and summer, leading to him blazing his own path. Or at the very least be a “blue chip” type prospect for Oklahoma D2s.

One of the few true big guards/wings in Oklahoma, Smedley is a next level athlete. In one big performance against Guymon he got loose for 9, yes 9, dunks. But he’s more than just an athlete, as he has a smooth scoring game. Went for 41 points against Altus at the Weatherford tournament. But perhaps his best scoring display came in a tough battle against Carl Albert. He drained six three pointers for 29 points, further proof that he can do it all on the court.

One of the biggest eye catchers of the spring and summer, Smedley looks ready to hit the ground running as the go to man for Guthrie. Showed off the springs with multiple dunks, even a reverse slam in transition. Liked his operating out of the high post, drilling jumpers and even a great feed to a cutting teammate. Add in perimeter shooting, and he has the ability to hurt teams from all over the court.

Smedley is a rock solid big guard. Gets his within in the flow of the offense, with scoring from 12 feet and in. Especially as he has good hang time for tough finishes around the rim. Will make the right passes. Knocked down open threes as well, providing floor spacing. Quality athlete, with a Swiss Army Knife type aspect to his game.

Athletic perimeter prospect, who’s skill level appears to be developing at a similar rate to his athleticism. Trending more to potentially be more of a 2/3. Even has some secondary creation ability, complete with the vision for no look feeds and more. Has shot it consistently well from three in multiple viewings this spring and that continued this past weekend. Complete player, who also is becoming one of the better athletes in the class. With explosive finishing ability at the rim.

Coming into the event, had liked what Smedley had shown on highlight tapes with Guthrie. And then he more than backed it up with a strong all around game. His bounce is fully coming in, including a strong transition slam. Can turn defense into the offense by quickly pushing after athletic rebounds or steals. Shot it well from the perimeter, with good form on catch and shoot opportunties. Seems to be a jack of all trade wing, who should only continue to rise as he becomes more athletic and skilled.

Running with Team Griffin Academy’s 17U Black squad, Smedley was a young bright spot for Guthrie this winter. He has good size and a solid fundamental base, with the frame and ability to finish through contact. When given a clear lane, he’s starting to have the ability to punch it home with slams. A fluid shooting motion and often being ready to shoot also makes him an off the ball spot up threat. Intriguing rising sophomore, who will be fascinating to watch running up at the 17U level.
