-Really have come away impressed with Alexander at the defensive end of the floor as he has really thrived in Coach Martin’s system at OLMC. Alexander’s footwork on the perimeter and quick hands allow him to serve as a really high-level POA defender that fights over ball screens to keep his matchup away from the middle of the floor. Alexander makes good decisions in the open court and is an unselfish passer both off the bounce and on the perimeter. Very valuable piece to the Cougars as they chase another BCL championship.

Alexander’s number was called much earlier than expected when Samartine Hill was sidelined with an injury to begin the season. Alexander was being asked to make a quick adjustment from his former school in Delaware and take on an important role for the reigning BCL/MIAA champs. There were highs and lows as expected, but overall Alexander has embraced the challenge and is willing to play on or off the ball alongside

. His confidence as a shooter off the bounce and burst with his first step are two factors that opposing conference teams have taken note of. He works at it defensively, continues to gain the trust of his teammates in crunch time, and is adjusting to the constant ball pressure that guards face in the BCL. Hill returned to the lineup after a couple of weeks, but Alexander is still playing a vital role within head coach Tony Martin’s scheme as the Cougars sit atop of the conference standings with an 11-1 overall record and a perfect 4-0 in BCL play.

It was Alexander’s first taste of high-level BCL basketball and there were highs and lows from his performance. The impressive part of his showing was the fact that he seemed to come up huge in key moments to either further Mount Carmel’s momentum or halt a St. Frances run. Alexander had a quick trigger off the catch whether it was from three or in the mid-range. He struggled to get his feet under him on jumpers after attacking aggressive closeouts, but that should round out as he adjusts to the speed and the pressure of the league. There were a few defensive possessions where he utilized active hands on drives as the stunt man to cause fumbles. He was decent at handling pressure, but struggled when traps came his way on ball screens. All in all, I walked away impressed with Alexander’s ability to work through adversity in a game of that magnitude. He doesn’t let his highs get to his head or allow the lows to impact his effort on ensuing possessions. He followed Wilson with 12 points.

His combination of sound shooting prowess and useful playmaking ability allows him to find success from either guard position. Kiyan is smart, tough, and unselfish with a well-rounded skillset. He knows how to initiate the offense, set up others, and assert his scoring presence in various ways. Kiyen thrives in spot-up situations but can convert pull-ups or attack closeouts and finish. Though slightly undersized, he’s a very pesky defender whose motor and instincts allow him to contain opponents at the point of attack. Next in his development process is working on getting stronger, as it would make him a more physically imposing player. Kiyen can run the team or find success without the ball. Defends with consistent energy.” Kiyen did a lot of things well for the Mount Carmel’s deep team.

Last year Alexander played for St. Elizabeth’s in Delaware and was ranked as one of the top 2027 prospects in the state. He is a multi-skilled guard prospect who can score off the dribble, pop threes and distribute. Still the most impressive element of Alexander’s game may be his efforts at the defensive end. Alexander is a menacing on-ball defender with active hands that allow him to pick the pockets of opposing point guards. He also excels at dropping down into the low post on and digging the ball out from a big man for steal. If there is a loose ball on the floor, you can bet Alexander is going to scoop it up. In all these scenarios, Alexander quickly uses these turnovers to produce easy scoring opportunities at the other end. Back in December, Alexander averaged 14 points per game at the Viking Invitational as St. Elizabeth’s assembled a 3-0 record and went home with the tournament hardware.

The comprehensive way that Alexander filled up that stat sheet represents the edge he brought to every facet of the game. The Vikings’ best movement shooter, he was good for at least two threes per game. And when he attacked off the catch or from a stand-still, Alexander got to the cup and/or the free throw line. Defensively, his size his advantage, because he could get underneath guys and rip the ball away with his quick hands.
