Joyner, out of the MacDuffie School in Massachusetts, checks in at #12 among the point guards and #76 overall. The 5’11” guard is playing with more confidence than ever before. He’s incredibly shifty as a driver, showing the ability to quickly changes speeds and direction, and uses his strong lower base to his advantage when playing through contact. He’s got a tough pull-up game, makes good reads out of ball screens, and shows the ability to defend at a high level on the other end of the floor.

In addition to Harris, Joyner did his fair share of scoring against Winchendon. The junior guard is only 5-foot-11, but he has great strength and an incredibly compact handle, so he’s able to puncture the paint and use body bumps to get his shot off in the mid range and at the rim. He also looks significantly more comfortable shooting the three ball, both off the dribble and off the catch, which is huge for a player his size. Defensively, Joyner slides his feet very quickly and has super active hands. In my opinion, he’s going to be a scholarship prospect when all is said and done, even though he isn’t going to wow you with his physical characteristics.

Joyner is a TRUE point guard, and he’s gotten so much better in the past year. When I first saw him 12 months ago, he was a bit out of control and easily pushed off his spot. Now, he has put on some muscle and can handle all of the pressure you throw at him defensively. He operates effectively out of the pick and roll and has great discernment in the paint when it comes to getting to his jumper/floater or making kick out passes to three-point shooters, and his deep ball has improved tremendously. Joyner will be a key cog for MacDuffie this season and should be on the radar of scholarship and high D3 coaches.

Joyner impressed me with his composure and floor general capabilities. The 5-foot-11 guard is obviously undersized for his position, but he’s a really good ball handler who understands how to get his teammates involved once he gets into the paint. He can also hit the midrange jumper and three ball, and I like the look of his shot. His size is going to limit his likelihood of playing scholarship basketball, but the sophomore could still be growing and should find a high D3 roster spot regardless. He seems to be a gym rat who plays as many AAU games as possible (he played for two different Magic teams this weekend).

had a bunch of great offensive moments throughout the night. The shooting he showed very much impressed me. He was comfortable getting into the mid-range and hitting pull-up jumpers with touch, which even extended beyond the arch. He was running the floor well, getting to the rack and pulling off advanced finishes through traffic, and even pulled off a nifty reverse layup. He was also making quick decisions as a passer and finding open teammates in the half-court which solidified his solid outing.

Joyner, who heads to MacDuffie after a state championship run at Worcester North, is a crafty lead guard that seemingly has the ball on a string in the half-court. After a great summer with the Mass Rivals, Joyner has continued to expand his game this fall and should be capable of playing a key role for MacDuffie this winter. He’s a good athlete that shows excellent body control and the ability to get downhill off screens. He displays nice floor vision and a good feel for changing pace. His ability to navigate through tight spaces, without turning the ball over, stands out every time he takes the floor. Defensively, he’s tough, strong, and determined. He doesn’t give up an inch and is capable of hounding opposing ball handlers for 94′. He’ll face stiffer competition in the NEPSAC this winter, but it a prospect that’s fun to watch and should only continue to improve over the coming years.
