Paul and his game made a loud statement last night. He led his Forest Hills Central team to an exciting 89-81 win against Ottawa Hills. Paul finished with a game high 32 points. He grooved his dangerous jumper, hitting 7 triples in the game. This isn’t the first and won’t be the last time that Paul catches fire from beyond the arc.

Paul made a statement at the Freshman Showcase. I’ve focused on his athleticism (which is impressive) before, but it might have been his disciplined play that stood out the most on Saturday. He looked so comfortable with his jumper, even on a pull up 3 from the top. Paul stayed focused and balanced throughout the shot. He did show a nasty hesitation move that put his defender on his hip and helped him draw a foul.

I’ve heard about his high-level shooting ability all summer, which I did see throughout the day, but I was most impressed with his skills around the basket. Despite being one of the smallest players on Sunday, he routinely found himself getting easy looks by using immaculate footwork and playing off of two feet. I distinctly remember him scoring on an up and under against a taller defender on back-to-back possessions. Oftentimes, extremely talented offensive players seem to take defense off, not Paul. I went through the whole camp thinking he was one of the best players in the gym. Then, I got home and figured out he’s going into 8th grade this year. The state should be on notice for
